Yeah, having a newborn really cuts into your socialising, so I’m spending all my nights in now, which means watching films ha.

Eraserhead was scary enough in the context of being in a poor family in a small apartment in Philadelphia. When I had a kid it took it to another level lol

Watched a really fun horror film from 1977 called Curse of the Dog God from Japan.

I knew I was in for a winner here when a puppeteer was listed prominently in the opening credits.

We start with scientists doing some investigating looking for uranium at the base of a sacred mountain. On their way there, they spy on two nude bathing women, destroy a shine with their car and then kill a dog (god). Do we think this will end well for them?

It has a bit in common with the 80s black magic films from Hong Kong that I love, with exorcism rituals and a Taoist priest. Like a lot of horrors, there's good stuff here in the modern meeting the rural, the city folk out of tune with the country folk and the folklore and mythology of the area.

Gorgeous looking film too, available in a lovely restoration, with great lighting and make up. Really fun stuff, and gets suitably batty at the end.
