Toys has some filler like “Uncle Salty” and “Adam’s Apple”. Every single song on Rocks is a killer. It stands with Van Halen and Back in Black among hard rock albums.
Ya i think both those songs are great Toys has higher highs and some weaker lows, Rocks is pretty consistentantly great, kinda balances out for me. Nobody’s Fault is one of the great Kashmir rewrites in the rock songbook. And lol i made a playlist of all the ones I’ve found!
Hell yeah, Guy Clark. I hope you stay with these threads going forward. Feel like I’ll pick up a good country rec or two
Done some listening: Celia Cruz and Johnny Pacheco - Tremendo Cache I never know what to say about Latin music except that Fania records never lets me down. Amazing percussion. Amazing horns. Amazing piano. I wish I could make out more of the lyrics (and knew a little more Spanish). But seriously tremendous summertime music. Bachman-Turner Overdrive - Four Wheel Drive Disappointing. Randy Bachman is always an excellent guitarist, and they do rock, but boy the songs just aren't really there. I legitimately love Not Fragile. It's dumb, charming, and memorable. This one is lacking in two of those, sadly. Allen Toussaint - Southern Nights Less "New Orleans" than I expected. Ambitious, well-produced and sequenced, funky, melodic. He's a just-okay singer, but he more than makes up for it. "Southern Nights" and "What Do You Want the Girl to Do" are better stand-alone in their cover versions (Glenn Campbell and Boz Scaggs, respectively), but Toussaint makes them work in sequence with the album so well. Elvin Bishop - Struttin' My Stuff Just insanely fun blues-funk boogie. The guitar playing is obviously great, but the biggest draw for me is the amazing Mickey Thomas (later of Starship) on vocals. "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" is a borderline perfect single. The Who - The Who By Numbers Really surprised how much I enjoy this, given its reputation. It's a nice comedown from hugely ambitious concept records into something a bit more relaxed and organic (and personal, given the struggles Townsend is chronicling here). There are a bunch of excellent songs that sort of sound like The Who, but the best ones are the oddballs like "Squeeze Box" and "Blue, Red and Grey". C.W. McCall - Black Bear Road Undeniably, he can't sing a lick. And sure, "Convoy" was only a #1 pop hit because it came out at the time of the C.B. radio crazy. And yeah, it's weird to have the backing singers take the choruses on a country album. But somehow it fucking works. The talking story songs are always interesting and frequently very funny. The slow ones are generally warm and well-written. And the arrangements are more involved than you'd expect and really pretty, especially on "Oregon Trail". An acquired taste for sure. Roxy Music - Siren Shit, this rules. I wasn't expecting it to be such a great guitar record, honestly. And "Love Is the Drug" is a very succinct summary of their greatness.
Is It’s Hard really that bad? I have a hard time believing an album with two songs as amazing as “Athena” and “Eminence Front” could suck so bad
1. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti 2. Queen - A Night At The Opera 3. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run Holy shit this year has so much more iconic shit than the previous. I think I will actually rank a top 10 in order when I have the chance.
I know I've said this a few times but I'm legit bummed that I've been pretty much out of the convo for the last few weeks. Finally getting settled in the new house so will be able to dedicate more time to listening starting next week.
The Spinners album comes with little cutouts that you can attach to various things or make mobiles very strange.
born to run wins with 27. blood on the tracks (26), a night at the opera (22) and wish you were here (21) were all close
Bonnie Raitt - Home Plate She may just be the greatest singer America ever produced. It’s hilarious this was considered a bit of a sellout at the time for having a little production. Plenty of really sharp slide playing all over it. Really good record
Whoops i forgot to vote Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks Neil Young - Tonight’s The Night Brucey - Born To Run
