Has anyone seen the Funk Brothers documentary? Probably going to watch that and revisit the Wrecking Crew doc in the next couple of days
It’s happening tomorrow for me - today got away from me I was super irritated. Still have the YouTube page queued up.
i’m sure they would. i’ll check them along with the 66 albums tomorrow. me ignoring them was a product of annoying people pushing them on me early on
Yeah I definitely had some bands like that. I honestly think people overrate SOS by putting it on a tier with their next 3, but PSR&T is where they realized how to be great
I’ll be surprised if you don’t recognize “The Sound of Silence” once it starts, it’s been all over the zeitgeist in recent years
"Bridge Over Troubled Water" is legitimately one of the top 10-20 songs ever, "The Boxer" not far behind. SOS is for sure on the same plane as the next three; it's my second favorite S&G and favorite album of '66. I'll concede that's it's definitely more raw on a technical level, but you have the all-timer bookends (npi), with everything in between some of the most beautiful writing and melodies put to record.
it’s hard to tell which dude is which when they’re singing. who is the main voice and who is the more harmony voice? i’m guessing paul is the lead? or is it different song to song
that was very pleasant. gonna need more listens to let the songwriting seep in but i enjoyed myself. onto PSR&T
Paul Simon is a top 3 (or 2? Top 1?) artist for me, but I think Simon & Garfunkel is a little patchy and hasn’t aged particularly well. For my sensitivies, his work takes a massive leap forward with the solo years. I have a lot of fondness for all the S&G albums and obviously love the classics, but there’s a looooot of filler and Art...he is a great singer, but I think often kinda cringey
i knew people loved graceland but i thought the group was considered superior. interesting. i’ll roll with his solo stuff when we get to those years for sure
Come October, I think you will enjoy the sad surreal lyrics of Graceland a bunch. With 1966 on my mind, I wanna say that album bears a lyrical resemblence to Blonde On Blonde. Fewer adjectives, but it’s similarly abstract.
i was gonna say dylan is due some money from “a simple desultory philippic” and then they name drop him mid-song lol
