My brain exploded just trying to narrow it down to 10 unranked songs. I may be an 11th hour submitter
I both don’t know enough music and also know way too many songs, especially older songs, where it take me way too long to sit down and think hard about it, instead I’m gonna go with songs that pop into my head first 1. The Temptations-My Girl 2. The Temptations-Ain’t Too Proud To Beg 3. The Marcels-Blue Moon 4. The Beatles-Yesterday 5. The Drifters-Under The Boardwalk 6. The Four Tops-I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) 7. The Beach Boys-I Get Around 8. The Rolling Stones-Paint It Black 9. Aretha Franklin-Respect 10. Louis Armstrong-What A Wonderful World I grew up on doo wop and Motown so those are usually the first things I think of when I think of 60s music. I had to think a little bit to try and make my list a bit more varied and get more artists on there. If you asked me tomorrow I’d probably give you 7-8 different songs.
1. The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby 2. Famous Blue Raincoat - Leonard Cohen 3. Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind) - Loretta Lynn 4. I Heard It Through the Grapevine - Marvin Gaye 5. California Dreamin’ - The Mama’s and The Papa’s 6. The Visit ( She Was Here) - The Cyrkle 7. The Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel 8. For What It’s Worth - Buffalo Springfield 9. Space Oddity - David Bowie 10. What the World Needs Now Is Love - Jackie DeShannon
1. Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now 2. Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues 3. The Ronettes - Be My Baby 4. The Velvet Underground - I'll Be Your Mirror 5. The Supremes - You Can't Hurry Love 6. Nancy Sinatra - Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) 7. Bob Dylan - Visions of Johanna 8. Aretha Franklin - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman 9. Leonard Cohen - Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye 10. Nick Drake – River Man
it’s grown on me the last few months. the album as a whole is maybe thee most overrated ever but there’s four or five great tracks
Heavy into a Townes Van Zandt kick right now and I could make a case for "I'll Be Here in the Morning" or "Fare Thee Well Miss Carousel" making my top 20 list.
To be fair, the definitive version is the re-record he did in the ‘70s for the Greatest Hits, so you have a second shot
beatles currently have two in the top 10 and two right outside. idk if they're suffering haha. and just glancing quickly i only see two VU songs, though i could be wrong. idk how much they're splitting votes so much as fools aren't voting for them in general
okay yeah. again, even with it being four, all of them got one vote. idk if it’s so much splitting votes as just not getting votes. it was the same for them in the yearly threads, never really came close to winning one. unfortunate all the same.
It’s the nature of something like this. Everyone who likes Ben E. King is giving their vote to the same one. If they did the same with the Velvets, maybe they make it, but they split it over a few songs. It’s just a reality of a song vote
10. Simon and Garfunkel: America 9. The Ronettes: Be My Baby 8. Buffalo Springfield: Broken Arrow 7. Van Morrison: Sweet Thing 6. The Beatles: A Day in the Life 5. The Zombies: Hung Up On a Dream 4. Bob Dylan: Mama, You’ve Been On My Mind 3. Leonard Cohen: Suzanne 2. The Supremes: Baby Love 1. Crosby, Stills, and Nash: Suite: Judy Blue Eyes HM: Rolling Stones: Let it Bleed Four Tops: Reach Out I’ll Be There Velvet Underground: The Black Angel’s Death Song Jackson 5: I Want You Back Os Mutantes: Panis Et Cercenses Beach Boys: Wouldn’t It Be Nice?
