Yeah I think they were given that order with the intention that they probably wouldn't make it, and what's two lives worth in this war, so why not just send these two lads and see what happens. They normally would have just called the guys on the front line to tell them not to charge into the trap, but since the lines were cut couldn't do that. Those guys were fucked most likely anyways, but let's try this very likely to fail plan anyways
Lol. “Sherlock.” Maybe. But I feel like a general would have been strategic in war whether he personally cared about the men or not. Losing all those men would have been a strategic loss as well as a personal loss. Besides, if I’m remembering correctly, no one knew at the beginning of WWI that they were throwing their men to their deaths. Brits were sent off in such a spirit of nationalism that soldiers were greeting the war like it was a trip to Disney World. The reality was a total shock.
Definitely nice to have a big budget WW1 movie for a change. Some of those scenes/environments were gnarly
Did anyone see this in theaters and then later see it at home? I was blown away seeing it in theaters. Wondering how well it holds up on a television.
I loved it at home too. There are shots here that are clearly next level in theaters, but they're also too good to lose their impact on a small screen (the ruins scene and running scene in particular).
