The Jerk Freddy Got Fingered The Greasy Strangler Probably pretty controversial picks, but these are honestly the three movies that come to mind when I think of all time favorites.
I'm a day late but my top 10 (ok, 11) directors: Jean-Luc Godard Ingmar Bergman Michelangelo Antonioni Wong Kar-wai Alain Resnais Terrence Malick Pedro Costa Hong Sang-soo Brian De Palma Hou Hsiao-hsien Manoel de Oliveira
Re: Von Trier. Breaking the Waves and Dogville are pretty much perfect. The Idiots is unwatchable, Manderlay too. The rest all falls between. I remember liking Melancholia a lot, but it's been a few years.
I've seen all of them many times and still laugh out loud every time. The Jerk is admired by lots of people, but I still feel like most people under 40 have never seen it. Freddy Got Fingered was maligned when it came out and people still look poorly upon it, but I feel like it was completely misunderstood. One of the most brilliant comedies ever, and I see lots of critically acclaimed stuff now that was obviously influenced by it or has a similar tone/style. Greasy Strangler is still fairly new, but I feel the same about it as I do FGF.
Well there is Hot Rod, Wet Hot American Summer and South Park Movie, but year The Jerk is super classic and I am surprised about how many people my age haven't seen it.
I would probably say it's near the top. In no order: Young Frankenstein (this is my personal favorite) The Jerk Dumb and Dumber Walk Hard: A Dewey Cox Story The 40 Year-Old Virgin Blazing Saddles Borat There are more, but those are the ones that spring to mind.
Totally agree with 40 Year Old, Jerk, UF and Saddles. I'd also put up my aforementioned Hot Rod, WHAM and SP as well as Chaddy Shack, Happy Gilmore and Liar Liar I think all hold up really well.
Sorry, but Young Frankenstein is the only movie listed above that comes close to The Jerk. I am an fan of most all of those though.
The Big Lebowski and MacGruber belong in the conversation of greatest comedies. Duck Soup is up there as well.
Other than Young Frankenstein, which I think is objectively brilliant and a classic any way you slice it, those others are personal favorites, so I have no issue with them not being on a list or anything.
I'm one of the rare ones who don't get the Big Lebowski love. I hear a lot of people opened up to it upon rewatches, but why would you keep rewatching something that isn't good. McGruber is awesome. I heard there may be sequel being talked about
Oh man, Pineapple Express is absolutely up there for me. Can't believe I forgot that one. I can't stand The Big Lebowski.
Was gonna write up my ten, but it's too hard. MacGruber is a movie I show everyone I can. I remember seeing it in theaters and howling with my buddies. "You guyssss? Tuggggg?" Fun fact it was also filmed in my hometown. Abq.
Obviously I cannot show a movie like The Big Lebowski, but I offer it as an extra credit assignment to my juniors. They always have the most interesting reviews.
