I liked it. Probably my least favorite of the BP noms I've seen so far. It drags a bit in the middle. But Hanks is great as usual and Spielberg's level of craft is so high that anything he makes is a pleasure to watch from a production standpoint. Some really gorgeous shots in that movie.
Kind of surprised Hanks hasn't been nominated for anything this year. It's sort of a low-key performance, but I think we've reached the point where people take him for granted because he's always so good. I still can't believe he didn't get a nomination for Captain Phillips a few years back. He should have won for the last five minutes of that movie alone.
@Craig Manning Yeah, that's the thing about Spielberg and Hanks, they seem to always make just really solid movies. Sometimes I want them to take a few more risks, maybe, but in the end I can't really complain. I enjoyed it for sure.
Also, re: Best Picture, I think Spielberg has gotten in for weaker films in the not-so-distant past. I preferred this overall to both Lincoln and War Horse.
Haha, I remember very little of it. It was, of course, very well done from a technical standpoint. Just not particularly interesting, and no great performances. Lincoln dragged a lot for me, but at least you had DDL giving a performance for the ages.
