new post from Hayley on substack i suppose i will always write about my own life but there’s definitely a sense that this last project was an exorcism or like a death rattle. it feels like all the shit i’ve been ruminating on from adolescence to about age 26 just came up and out, projectile-style. and thank god, cause it does no one good to jump over or run circles round the hole in the floor when you could just fix it. it’s nice when the painful growth is fruitful. it’s when it’s not that you have to wonder what you might’ve missed. so, there’s a bit more promotional shit to do. i really want to play shows with this record, so… i don’t mind being outside. i’ll be picturing myself here, on this porch looking out at infinite shades of green. or in the creek, with my feet in the cold water. to answer the person at the Rough Trade signing: yes, i’m okay. a lot of things are true at once, like always. but i’m really actually good. that’s the craziest part.

Ok ok so then if the eye ball monster got inside a hybrid then that WOULD be a serious threat to a Xeno then.

I saw someone on Reddit saying that Hawley confirmed on the post episode podcast that the eye alien was distracting the scientist and not trying to save her

That would have been a cool idea, but hard to see how puling eyeballs out is beneficial to the humans haha. The intriguing surprise to me in this one was that the eye alien is an antagonist to xenomorphs. I'm super excited to see how that plays out. (Even if the human vessel feels like it should still have no chance against a xenomorph. That matchup felt a touch off, to be sure)

"Mosquitoes" and "Till My Heart Stops" are awesome. I liked "Metal" as a single but it grew on me even more in album context.

"No Joy" strikes me as being a lot better in context, too. Metal is an all-time song, for me. Just stunning writing. The album and band in general seem to really resist flash-in-the-pan output, like I will still be catching stuff and sorting out the lyrics for a long time. Very solid follow-up to Expert in a Dying Field, which is maybe my favorite album to come out since the pandemic.
