I remember my first listen with my roommate of SHTS, us being super excited then him being like, "what is this nu-metal shit." The album grew to be one of my favorite albums at the time but I only had one friend I knew would like it that I told about it. It had elements in it where had they just had a little more bop they could have made something to follow up strong. I hate when bands turn their back completely and hate what made them recognizable in the first place. There's growth, but then there's just deleting the identity of your band.

as there is objective truth over what makes a good song good got it missed my point anyway, which was that its influences made it inherently less commercial

I... don't really know what to say? I do have something in mind that bothers me: the way people were so proud of her in 2021 for coming out of her conservatorship, then turned on her the second they realized she wasn't going to go back to Britney Spears the popstar they grew up with... And now it feels like the world instead has gone back to treating her as a laughing stock in the same way as in the late 00s. At this point, I don't know what I'm expected to feel when we're doing yet another round of "Britney does something weird or inappropriate". I'm aware she's not faultless, but I don't want to feed the very same system that trapped her back in the day either. I've seen more and more of her reels pop up on meme/cringe compilations and I'm like... have we learned nothing

Alrighty, a bit of an actual update today. Finch live-streamed the first twenty minutes or so of their set at Leeds today (backstage and on stage). During the backstage portion, Randy leans into the phone and mentions the band’s currently writing a new record. As we are well aware, the news of Finch writing a record DOES NOT mean we’ll ever actually hear new music officially released, but it’s something (although I figured they’d be further along than this by now). The band’s also been playing two new songs during their most recent appearances. I’m assuming they’re still “Rainy Day” and “Horror Island” but if anyone else can confirm/deny that’d be cool. Setlist.fm doesn’t have any details yet.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/44473543721 If you post into this facebook group, strong chance someone might have it. They use to play EVERY show in jersey. Liked them a lot. On another note, the genre is sounding really "same-y" these days. Early 2000's bands sounded so different. Any bands out there where the guitar production is a bit different or heavier or even the singing is less muzzled/NFG-ish. Just looking for something that doesn't sound too similar to everything else but still genre adjacent. I find myself listening to more post-hardcore these days, enjoyed HiddenYouth, SeeMoreGlass and Kid Liberty were good finds here.

Highly considering going to this as I just moved to Portland two months ago and I never got to see Gatsby live before.
