I gave this a first listen during a walk yesterday and found myself welling up at certain points. I wasn't exactly taking the lyrics in either, but when Ruston does a sad song, it just hits you right in the gut. His vocal performances in those kind of songs is so strong. Looking forward to playing this to death as I seem to do with all his records.

This is my favorite record he's made since Dying Star. Really lovely stuff.

Between the Buried and Me (The Blue Nowhere) -- Prog metalcore with some wild tangents. Maruja (Pain to Power) -- Very great, very eclectic post-rock, hip-hop, jazz, post-hardcore band. Album is very hard to describe in words, but I also find it very hard to put down. Der Weg einer Freiheit (Innern) -- Breath-taking, atmospheric, epic black metal. Acceptance (Phantoms/Twenty) -- Original is a classic for me. This has some slight variations with really nice guest vocals. Silverstein (Pink Moon) -- One of the best, most consistent post-hardcore bands. Really enjoyed the first part of this double-album, and I'm excited for the second part. The Sound of Animals Fighting (The Maiden) -- Experimental, progressive post-hardcore supergroup/collective do it again. Cartel (Chroma MMXXV) -- Rerecording/reworking of a very, very good pop-punk album. Punchline (Somewhere To Land) -- Pop-punk. These guys should be way more popular than they are. So many wonderful records. I See Stars (THE WHEEL) -- Metalcore with a heavy electronic bent. I can't believe it's been nine years since their last album dropped. Their last album surprised me by how much better I thought it was than their previous output. Hoping this one is just as good. Lorna Shore (I feel The Everblack Festering Within Me) -- Symphonic deathcore. I like these guys. Their vocalist is as talented as how hard I eyeroll when I read the album title. Nicolas Cage Fighter (I Watched You Burn) -- Metalcore. Honestly, I'm just checking this out because of the band name. It's a very good name. STARSET (SILOS) -- Dark, heavy-ish, electronic alt-rock. I like these dudes, but their albums are pretty bloated. Unaligned (A Form Beyond) -- Tech-death. King Princess (Girl Violence) -- Pop. Dance Gavin Dance (Pantheon) -- These guys seem like bad people. They try some different things on this one. Pretty good if you like DGD.

I feel like most of my feed is 20th anniversary albums... I'm most excited to check out Phantoms/Twenty by Acceptance. I've really enjoyed the re-recordings with the guest vocals so far and that album is an all timer. I'm a little less intrigued by the Cartel and Sigur Rós, but I'll pop them on anyway as it feels like a good reason to revisit some other classics. Most important for me today though is Ruston Kelly. I've got very high hopes for this based off the singles.
