so funny to me how this album first came into my life as an alternative to deftones dragging their feet releasing ohms, and in the five years since weve gotten two deftones albums and no loathe lol

Have nothing to report here so apologies in advance. It is pretty funny it looks like they are going into yet another touring cycle with no album, but with most of the shows already sold out that had me thinking that at this point these guys are the perfect candidate for a surprise album drop, may actually generate more conversation for them than an actual rollout at this point again not saying anything based in reality here/mostly just copium

Can Tim and Chris just form a supergroup with 00s metalcore/mathcore alumnis? I don't know if it's because I'm currently in that zone, revisiting tons of lesser known bands from that era including those from the old Tooth & Nail and Solid State rooster, but those heavy demos Tim played totally have Scarlet and Spitfire vibes. If Spencer and Aaron aren't interested in them, it'd be a bummer if these ideas go to waste forever.

Their recent albums haven’t been the greatest but I will always check what they do out.

Grateful that they're still at it and at such a fast pace for a band 30 years into their career. They just never stop.

Took a few days break from listening to this to get caught up on a few other albums and MAN this record slams. Needed to know it wasn’t just a fluke feeling of having new music from them. I almost feel like PM is beginning-to-end what the band does best.

I think he was high for most of his life and that had something to do with his eventual mental crash. I was happy to hear he's taking care of himself now though. Curious to see how that plays out for the next album.

I still think Vaxis I is the winner of the three. While it might be a tad bloated, the highs are just too good.

Listen to the last 4 songs.....The Flood and Tethered Together fucking sold me but the flow of the four Continuum songs is great.

I still believe it'll happen eventually. Just happy Mark is still busy with Black Map even if it's not the same thing This rules. I'm reading that Matt Goldman worked on their debut... I'm intrigued (wish Underoath would go back with him)

I actually listened to the first song on that album after I posted, and realized Terry Date of Deftones fame produced. There’s definitely some magic on that album that never got recaptured unfortunately.

It’s funny you mentioned Dredg. I was thinking about them today for who knows why and was depressed by the thought that a new album is never actually going to happen. I can’t believe how hard they fell off after Catch Without Arms.

Info that will be different by next week but I think my current favorites, or at least “most listened to when not listening to the entire album” are ITAYATT and “Madonna” but my favorite chorus is “~metal dream” which I’m not sure I even noticed had this ~ symbol before the word metal before

Just heard this on Metalbirb’s channel last night. I generally find him corny, but decent at recc’ing new music, and He absolutely nailed this one. Hype is entirely warranted, can’t wait for the EP.

Agreed that Souvenir is the weakest track on here. Meanwhile, I cannot find the words to express how much I love cXz. Man, oh man.

Listening to this on CD with flat EQ through headphones was a revelation. Don't know what was wrong with the supposed flac files I had but it was a revelation to hear it all in proper form without the harshness or mud. Could mention things from every song at this stage but no one wants to read that. But it occurred to me that this album feels like they used the bright, hefty, semi-existential optimism from the title track on Ohms as fuel for a full creative endeavour; obviously not an intentional choice, but the themes and general feelings are similar and expanded upon. Souvenir is the only one that still doesn't quite hit for me — it gets a little squashed and never quite soars, which every song before it does — but it's still eminently listenable. Chino's osmosis melodies...I do not know how he still does it. The guy is seriously one of the best melody writers ever. In any form of music.

he sounds better on private music for sure, especially in terms of how he’s placed in the mix. I’d also have to guess that Nick probably uses more tuning in his vocal processing, whereas Terry seems to prefer a more raw and in your face sound (warts and all). I think that approach worked better for their original run with him, and I generally prefer how Chino sounds on those records to anything post-S/T, but I think it was less successful for Ohms, on the whole. I also just think since Chino has been in a healthier place and is sober now, his voice has been stronger than it’s been in a long time, so private music has the benefit of that. I will say, however, I personally found Chino’s lyrics much more compelling on Ohms overall than I do on private music.

After listening a little more to Ohms, I’ve decided I really dislike how Chino sounds on that album. Don’t know who is responsible, but yeah…
