^ Literally this. I'm the exact target audience. Long time fan of Simple Plan and a casual fan of Avril.

I had hopes for this, but it feels like what AI would have created if you'd asked it to make a song called "young & dumb" by Avril and Simple Plan. Very forgettable.

I think @Jason Tate summed it up quite well: “I’ve long argued that Kris may be one of the most underrated songwriters of all time, and I truly mean that. His way of writing, tackling nostalgia and growing up and relationships and life’s ups and downs, is almost peerless in this genre.”

As I recall, Kris showcased snippets of some more post-rock-influenced new stuff during his pandemic livestreams in 2020. Will be interesting to see if any of that material shows up on the new album. But man, Car Song is outstanding -- I'm so happy to (finally!) hear new Ataris material! I always felt Kris was the best songwriter of his genre/generation, and this song just shows that he hasn't lost any of that skill. It feels very classic Ataris (nostalgic lyrics, great melodies), and it feels like growth (e.g. a little more rock-n-roll, but not in a way that's out of place). Can't wait for more.

Literally. Unreal how much they continue to improve this late into their career. I can't think of a band that has continually improved like this over 25 years? I am all ears if anyone has an example.
