Loved when he said that as they are celebrating the last 25 years as a band, they also see this as the start of the next 25 years. As more and more bands from this scene dwindle and fade, it’s nice to have bands like Bayside that have continually been putting in the work, and seemingly still be in it for the long haul. They were great both nights. It was cool getting to see some songs I never thought I’d see live, and probably never will again.

@aiyana91 I shared your story with a friend of mine who was on the fence about going to see them on tour, and it has since changed her mind. Baby steps, but it shows your words have power. Thank you for the courage to share them.

It seems the article is getting more traction as I woke up to much higher traffic stats than when I went to bed. At this point, this is the only public forum I feel safe and comfortable engaging with, so I need to say I’m extremely grateful to @Jason Tate for being the initial person with a platform who read and chose to uplift my story (and the stories of my sisters who have also been abused). Thank you to everyone cultivating a space of safety and support for me here, too, so I can expand upon this experience and attempt to educate others. Going public is exhausting work, and it’s difficult to ignore the urges to explain myself over and over, to defend my incredible mother, and to see my story twisted to ensure the continued comfort of others. I physically felt my body digesting trauma last evening having the freedom to speak and the gift of finally feeling heard. This space has been truly invaluable.

Not even just the band anymore but their manager was actively involved. I mean, somehow that is a new level of disheartening for me. Someone who - at bare minimum - could have spoken up and said “Hey, maybe we shouldn’t keep bringing 15 year olds on the tour bus.” Everyone in that band’s orbit is complicit and disgusting.

I don’t know why people were expecting the other band members to say something, when they were fine with this creep bringing children on the tour bus every day for the band’s history.

What really gets me is bros on facebook who are defending them and all the reasons, then have their main photo being them with a daughter/child. Can they not make the simple connection that if their 15 year old kid was being groomed by a 27 year old singer, they would NOT be ok with it?!?!?!

@Drewski, I appreciate your attempt to answer the question, but I need to be honest about the harm that your “I don’t know” ultimately perpetuates, especially from someone in a mod position within a community that continues to center and uplift Brand New. When you say “I don’t know,” what you're actually doing is refusing to take a clear stance in the face of overwhelming evidence of abuse. That ambiguity doesn’t read as thoughtful introspection, it reads as complicity. For survivors such as myself watching, it feels like our pain is something you’re still weighing, something you’re still unsure about. That’s not neutral, that’s a choice. You mentioned that your wife is a survivor who continues to support the band. I want to be clear that I’m not questioning her experience or yours, and I’m not trying to come for you personally. But I do think it’s important to point out that one survivor’s relationship with the art isn’t a stand-in for the broader impact these kinds of public platforms have. The idea that you've “never tried to convince anyone” of your stance doesn’t absolve you, because maintaining a platform where Brand New is still celebrated is a stance. I’m not asking you to be perfect, or to deny where you’ve been or how you’ve felt along the way. But at a certain point, “I don’t know” becomes a shield for “I don’t want to let go.” And if that’s the case, I just want you to say it plainly, because that’s a much more honest answer than the one you’ve given.

I'm close with Emily Driskill, who was one of the two original women to speak out against his abuse. In fact, you can see her in the back of two of the photos from the tourbus shots I posted in my article. There were TWO girls he was abusing on his tourbus at the exact same time. The people claiming the "age math" doesn't add up are absolute imbeciles. These girls were all groomed starting at age 15. Sexually explicit favors, albeit virtual, were solicited BEFORE they were 18. The fact that these stans are defending him based on a lack of a court trial, and a lack of "hard" evidence (despite the Is Anyone Up screenshot, my photographs, Nicole's photographs, etc) have karma coming for them. They will do anything and everything they can to keep Lacey on his pedestal. It's disgusting behavior but shouldn't be entertained any more than it already has been.

Thank you @aiyana91 for sharing your story. I’m the same age as you, and the photos you shared with your story made me think about being a fan at that age. How I would’ve been in the same position as you if I ever saw them before I was an adult and ended up in that situation. I think about my female friends in the same boat, who had been to many BN concerts when they were teens…and how we looked and how we would’ve acted if we had been in your exact position. and reading this made me feel physically ill. your story is valid and important and I am glad you’ve spoken up. it’s not an easy thing to discuss and I am just sending you all the love.
