I started playing Pokemon Legends for the first time. I hope this grows on me because I am really not liking this so far. I have almost 3 hours of playtime and I still feel like I am in the tutorial section. Endless text prompts. Stop go stop go on and on. For a game that I thought whose thing was supposed to be Pokemon but with more open world RPG like elements this so far feels more rigid and restrictive than even a mainline Pokemon game.

I also feel like part of my gripes with Elden Ring were related to a lesson I needed to learn that ALSO was a gripe with Bloodborne: that I really didn't need to fight everyone. I wasn't someone who banged their head against the wall with Tree Sentinel but I DID have the itch to fight every small enemy I saw in Limgrave/Yharnam and never really just accepted that I didn't need to fight them Now my rule of thumb is to fight everyone once but once I've killed them at one point I have the right to run past in the future, made the games feel a lot less tedious

Bloodborne was literally a horrible experience for me and then someone showed me how to play the game a bit differently and it just started to flow. I hated the opening area so much because it just felt like I was ramming my head into wall.

Haha I know! Sorry if it came off that I was being argumentative. I'm trying to get better at communicating through text which I'm still not good at. I've been trying very hard to get better and my therapy along with medications and new treatments is really helping this time around. It's very weird to actually watch or play something and feel bright and joyous after years upon years of severe depression haha. It's like your brain tells you "oh this is just how life is" and then suddenly one day you're like "wait, things can just be...nice and enjoyable?" It's such a a drastic shift.

You can go back 500 pages and probably read my take on Elden Ring which was something along of the lines of 'I have never played a souls game before and I hate this!!!! Are they all this BAD?!'. There is a lot I'm sure that I would like about it now, and I do plan on going back and unroasting myself some day.

I like a lot of stuff and you can easily browse the Bands you loved who faded away, Motion City Soundtrack, Anime, Gorillaz, Nintendo, Yellowcard, and multiple other threads to see that. Just because I'm overly critical of things doesn't mean I don't like anything. My taste (or lack there of apparently) doesn't invalidate your taste.

Recency bias is mostly used for comparison's sake in my experience. It tends to show up a lot at Game Of The Year discussions because a lot of people tend to forget what came out back in January - March sometimes even April. Your brain gets excited by new things easily and it makes sense that the most recent thing that's occupying your current life is the thing that gets the most focus.

Overall though I do think that it makes discourse bland when it's phrased that way but sometimes it really is just that game hitting in a very special way But with reviewers I grain of salt it because time changes a LOT of things and reviewers do not have the luxury of time

I obviously don't mind any individual feeling that way, but I do think out of control recency bias and hyperbole in general is bad for the critical discourse and boring
