I'll never forget my first couple of listens through this entire record. I was stunned into silence. As much as I loved the visceral elements of EYEWTAS, it felt like Daryl was pushing himself to outdo every incredible melody and harmony he'd come up with to best service each song rather than just going for screams. Which often would've worked just fine too. The bass lines are the reason I pick up a 4-string from time to time just to noodle around and try to understand Beck's mind a little more. And it's almost unfathomable that the same dude who plays for butt rock kings Godsmack is the drummer behind all of the brilliant licks and fills on display here, but Shannon Larkin is indeed a beast who can shine when he's allowed to cut loose. It's no surprise Ross called him in to track drums on this since they were homies going back to the Amen days. I can't say enough about what this album did for my development as a musician...which explains why this is my longest post on here in years. Damn.

Don't get me wrong, I do love Act 5!!! The Most Cursed of Hands is one of my favs of theirs. I guess i was just hoping for a different style / vibe. It tied all the Acts together nicely (e.g. The March). I think i just wanted something NEW. The Color Spectrum blew me away (still my favorite project by them; 36 songs; all good; in an extremely challenging and unique concept executed flawlessly IMO). Sometimes being in the right mindstate when an album comes out can make all the difference too. Really digging the new album.

It should be copied from there. I’ll check what went wrong. I added that one manually yesterday.

Camp Trash is great! I really like the new Dear Hunter. I love all their stuff but not gonna lie, Act V was kind of hard to digest. It sounded way too much like Act IV in terms of production (because they were created at the same time), and songs just didnt stand out to me as truly unique. I am really digging the new record! It's a totally different vibe from them. Very jazzy, dancy, and multi rhythmic, without sacrificing the prog elements i love. Lot of great layering. Vocal melodies feel fresh and new. I think this is a big W for The Dear Hunter. I haven't been this excited since Act 4.
