I've been a little out of the loop the last couple months (new dad! yay!) and haven't really heard much. But I saw that TBS and Say Anything are playing a show together. I wonder if Fred will perform double duty or if he's still quitting Say Anything to play with TBS as was originally the plan. Or maybe the whole TBS thing fell apart and I'll come off like a big fat liar to all you people in which case I will be too embarrassed to ever show my face here again

I really don't think anyone is arguing for being nicer to Brand New fans lol. More so advocating that reading through 150 posts of the same dunks on the same users is annoying for people who actually want to use this thread for its intended purposed. Don't think we should allow a Brand New thread either because it would be an absolute nightmare, if not impossible, to moderate. The level of worship for that band is...different than the others mentioned in the conversation. That's why I think the best solution for all is to ignore the ragebait or simply kick their dumbass out the moment they out themselves. The only reasons to discuss Brand New in this thread is 1. if there is news about the band's activity or situation, and 2. if an established user has a genuine question for the community. It's pretty easy to tell good faith from bad faith in here.

I’m not sure what you mean with the last paragraph. I had a feeling my post would be misconstrued as being on the side of that user and others who act like pariahs even though they’re not victims here. I’m not on their side. I’ll try rephrasing what I meant. I think it’s the language being… so violent that gets me sometimes? Granted, it’s hard for me not to project my own feelings onto you guys due to my own triggers etc but it’s all the “Grow up” the “shut up” and other expressions. At some moment I feel like the main points get lost and what remains, deep down in my gut, is the hostility. For real, I got super anxious reading these last few pages, not only because of the minimizing and victim blaming from BN’s fanbase’s side, for sure that’s awful, and honestly… no the solution shouldn’t be to simply scroll or ignore the thread. I wish these discussions would be handled in another way then… maybe in a more sensitive manner? I understand it has to come both ways, and that in Brand New’s case, some of their fans do come in here expecting to be coddled or that one of us says “yes honey you’re not only allowed to listen to them but to support their comeback x”. These fans are delusional as fuck and I get that it means you guys will come at them very strongly. It’s infuriating explaining our stance about BN’s return over and over again to peeps who more often than not don’t get it or aren’t ready to hear it, even after 8 freaking years. But do these discussions have to get this far? I mean, couldn’t the offenders be dealt with quicker? Put on time out, the thread temporarily locked, I don’t know… Something more radical before like the 15th user confronting them gets heated, gets their own little jab at them, and it ends up like *gestures at everything*? That’s what I mean by de-escalating or by putting a stop at this at a better (= earlier) time. I don’t think it’s a such a wild observation on my end. I’d love to hear what anyone else with a similar POV thinks because from now on, I’m debating between unfollowing this thread forever or to just suck it up (if I have to harshly talk like some of you do, even though we’re on the same side here). The problem with the former being that I do want to remain informed on the acts discussed here, so… what should I do? Outside of the Popjustice forum, which doesn’t deal with our scene anyway, I don’t trust any other online places. If this thread is a taste of what’s to come, considering Brand New are going to be active for the foreseeable future, to the point it takes up space in this thread that could be saved to inform about other acts and discuss what they’ve done, then I don’t think it’s worth it for me to come in here and get myself triggered over and over again. At this point in my life, I don’t think I have the “spoons” for this. I’m rambling at this point and I’m sorry for not being clear enough. All this is also making me realize I wouldn’t last long as a mod or that I’d be hated because I don’t have the patience you guys have.

None of this is productive lol. Having someone post dumb shit, banning them, and then 4 pages of dunking on a ghost is silly

I'm getting strong ap.net flashbacks and it makes me very uncomfortable to continue following this thread. It makes me believe few of us, contrary to what they'd believe, have learned as much as they think since that time. I feel like a conversation needs to be had about de-escalating and, even, putting a stop to the conversation soon enough, when things get too heated. I'm not only talking about the mods, even though it's their responsability to ensure these conversations don't reach a boiling point in the first place. It's something I've sensed way too many times and I feel like I need to say something. I don't need to see an user, even if they came here in bad faith and deservedly got called out for it, piled on again and again for this many pages! At some point, it's enough. Whether said user got the point or not is their problem, but I don't see how continuing to quote reply to their posts with name calling and shit is is any way meaningful and productive. If you see them continue to dig a hole for themselves, just kick them or ban them from that thread and propose to move on from that topic for the time being. Don't get me wrong, this action does happen but way too often much later than it should and at that point, many more peeps than needed already got very upset. Again, it's uncomfortable to watch. I don't see how this contributes to making this place safer. I feel like it's the accountability thread on ap.net again in these cases. I wish you guys would realize that. I'd love to elaborate further but I need to leave so I'll come back later.

I find it awesome that there is no "official consensus" while ranking TBS albums, all rankings are really different. With other bands they may be little differences but almost always people agree in their top 3 or 4 albums, or their worst albums. For me it would be something like this: WYWTB 152 TAYF (probably because of nostalgia) Tidal Wave Louder Now Happiness Is Self Titled New Again

I do want to make sure we are all smart enough to know that there are some casual fans who absolutely don't know about anything that went down with the band. I think we can assume everyone on this site, and everyone on reddit, absolutely knows... but there's a large group of people who have no idea, likely the more casual fans or just scene kids who don't keep up with anything music-wise etc etc. Not giving them passes, because it's good to, ya know, know about who you go give money to, but I know that there are a lot of people who simply don't know.

I get like…being annoying at people for going to the concert but do we need to post their picture/their kids pictures? What are we doing?

We shouldn't be posting pictures of kids that aren't yours on this thread, please delete the photo and just type it up
