What are the odds that he tries to cry? Just picturing him trying to force out a tear to show how victimised he and his family have been.

Yeah it's just a whole kick in the teeth. I got stopped at a train station coming home from work and questioned heartily for it and felt so bad yet he gets a round trip round England and not even a slap on the wrist.

It's literally gaslighting the entire country. They're pretending that all along this was okay, and that 14,000 people haven't been fined for doing pretty much exactly the same thing. How are any of those fines now enforceable? Surely someone could just claim to have been acting on "natural instincts" and their own interpretation of the guidance?

I just cannot wrap my head around the process of it all. Boris stated that he acted as every father would. Well, he didn't. He should have been isolating as a household under the guidelines instead of risking further spread through his own parents and now he's being commended for it. He's also giving a speech which will no doubt be a stupid fucking apology/admittance and a hint that he's not going to do it again. It's a mockery, an absolute mockery to those that cannot see their loved ones.

My Tory MP likes to say the reasonable thing but always, always toes the line. Yesterday he was tweeting that Cummings should "have humility" and apologise, but no need for him to resign. Hoping he gets a fire up his ass today.

Absolutely. My guy is a Labour guy that has already come out and condemned, and also posted on twitter about all the emails he's getting about it, so I haven't done so yet. Our neighboring MP is a Tory though, so I'm trying to get my friends who live in that constituency to write to pressure him. No chance of it working though. He's a total tosser, likes to think he's a mini Boris. He was only elected in December and is the most careerist guy you can think of. No way he torpedoes his career ambitions over it. He probably genuinely agrees with the Government line.

Yeah, his senior aide Dominic Cummings tested positive for Covid, hopped in a car and drove 250 miles to his parents house where he stayed for a week. He then returned at a later date simply for some sight-seeing. UK lockdown regs were that if you have symptoms or test positive, you don't leave your home. This weekend senior Tories, including Boris this evening at a press conference, have chosen to defend Cummings, argued that he didn't break regulations, he acted justifiably, even that he was just being a good parent. They've completely shredded public trust.

This whole thing has me fuming honestly. On Thursday I had to stay at home while my daughter was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, because I was following the rules. Fuck every last one of these pricks and the slavering sycophants who let them get away with it.

Like my wife said to me yesterday, they could have easily come out saying "yes, Cummings had a lapse in judgement, it's unfortunate but we all make mistakes, he won't be fired". Wouldn't go down well, but it's sellable. The fact that they're instead choosing to entirely dismantle public trust, revising guidelines on the fly to accommodate him, it's insane behaviour.

Honestly, I don't think No. 10 could have handled this any worse. If they'd come out as soon as the story broke owning up to it, saying he'd made a mistake but was just trying to do the best for his family, that he'd be disciplined but the PM is standing by him, this story would have died yesterday afternoon. As it is, you've got ministers dismantling the lockdown on twitter, Shapps claiming the Government never actually stated where people should isolate thus it was okay (despite the message at the time being "Stay Home"), Boris running scared, Tory MPs coming out calling for Cummings resignation. Absolute omnishambles from top to bottom.

Hi folks, just want to make sure we're clear of the rules here: Migrants trying to enter the UK for a better life: scum, irresponsible, vermin Dominic Cummings hightailing it to Durham: Very smart, caring father, uses common sense, bit of a hero actually. Please don't get this twisted, very important that's there's no confusion on this point.

Ok I’ll do it. @ScruffGruff, I read through a few of your comments in the Eminem thread and you’re right- everyone draws their own line on separating art vs. artist. However, public support for that artist demonstrates that you’re valuing that person’s artistic output over the person that they abused. In the case of Jesse Lacey, which seems to be the “mental gymnastics” you refer to there, his art is literally just his diary about treating young women terribly, which to me, has always been the issue with “separating art and artist” in the emo scene. The emo scene is predicated in the notion that these songs are from the heart and soul- they ARE the artist and if the artist is telling us he is a bad man and we are rewarding him for that, it becomes a problem. I am much less versed in the world of hip hop and I’m not really old enough to have understood the cultural impact of Eminem’s record in 2000. Do I think he LITERALLY wanted to murder his wife? No, but I think it’s extremely shitty to write that song and many of the other things he’s written about women. I think he is approaching Kitt from more of a dramatic storytelling perspective, but did we need another man writing a dramatic story about committing violence against women? Probably not then and certainly not now. The entire history of mankind is written by men and is often about violence against women. It’s the legacy of our species - after 2000 years or 2020 years, it isn’t interesting or revolutionary anymore, if it ever was. It only serves to punch down at a disenfranchised portion of society. I hope that helps explain a bit. I see that you’ve chosen to go the troll route in the rest of your posts and understand that putting effort into this reply was likely futile, but maybe not!

Absolutely. Matt Hancock was rendered "speechless" about Neil Ferguson. A man who was not ill, and invited a single other adult who also was not ill to his house. Edit - to be clear, I'm not defending Ferguson here. I'm more trying to make the point of consistency. Cummings left his own house, travelled 250+ miles, presumably stopped for petrol at some point, and also took his family with him. And yet now Hancock is saying it is "entirely right" for Cummings to have done that. The whole thing absolutely stinks. Part of me thinks there's no way he can survive this, surely? Once an Advisor becomes the story, it's game over like usual, surely? But deep down I know he'll survive.

Yeah, seeing all the ministers flocking to Twitter to say "this was just a man caring for his family, stop politicising it" is putting me in a rage. It's my daughters first birthday tomorrow and none of our family and friends will be celebrating with us. People have had to miss funerals, been unable to say goodbye to loved ones. This government does not give the slightest shit about people. They are every bit as cynical and narcissistic as you could ever imagine.

Feel sick reading the news this morning. Cummings travels 250+ miles, with symptoms, to visit family. And yet it's being defended as essential. You have the BBC spouting from "sources" (*cough* Cummings himself *cough*) that it was fine and allowed. I've not seen my family for 9 weeks, not seen my girlfriend for 9 weeks, people have not been able to attend their parents funerals, but Cummings and the Government think it's fine and essential to travel that distance for that reason? How many people did he infect at petrol stations on the way up? I'm just absolutely fuming. One rule for them, another for us.

So very, very sorry this happened to you. That’s terrifying. Having experienced the whole thing with my own daughter and the trampoline a few weeks ago, I feel you and the fear. Thankfully neither my wife or daughter have shown any symptoms since their time in the hospital, but there was a lot of pacing and worrying after that. Here’s to you and yours. Hoping for the best, especially for your little one. Glad she’s okay.

Pretty horrendous day yesterday, a scalding hot cup of coffee accidentally got knocked over my 3 year old daughter. Had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance, where she was refered to a specialist burns unit 2 hours away. Thankfully she's ok and came home late yesterday evening, superficial burns to her face, torso and arm. Of course now we have the worry that she and my wife will have come into contact with Covid having spent the whole day in two different hospitals. Anyway, if anyone needs me we'll just be here working our way through disney+
