pretty wild to think a lot of the synth / ambient stuff we hear on their records is chris using iphone apps.

I would describe them as “opposite of chorus.fm”

Allegra's father is a music journalist, I believe, but the "plant" notion is still rubbish.

Part of Me was in my top 10 in 2020 but it made very little waves even as their second album! I don’t think it’s a totally unreasonable question but plant is certainly not the case here

im not just interested in songs. I like a story. I enjoy knowing where a band is from, what do they listen to, who they are. Anyone can write a song, and this band has some good songs. I just want to know more about the background. I do this with any band I listen too.

Can anyone give me the story of this band? I heard speeding 72 a couple years ago and dug it but saw them and was underwhelmed. Couldn’t shake the “plant”-y vibes but a lot of people I trust like this band and I want to give them a fair shake.

Fred should quit Say Anything just as a general plan

Little Devotional is one of their best songs, and I’ll never understand why they never played it before the 20th anniversary tour and why they haven’t played it since.

I've been a little out of the loop the last couple months (new dad! yay!) and haven't really heard much. But I saw that TBS and Say Anything are playing a show together. I wonder if Fred will perform double duty or if he's still quitting Say Anything to play with TBS as was originally the plan. Or maybe the whole TBS thing fell apart and I'll come off like a big fat liar to all you people in which case I will be too embarrassed to ever show my face here again

I do post it every time it comes up as a meme, but I do genuinely believe it. It feels like Adam at his peak shitty-ness. Both the Fred situation and the relationship breaking up together created a monster lyrically. I also think that his sassy-ness, if you will, is turned up to 11 with fazzi writing these really groovy riffs. There is a groove on that record that isn’t on any other record because fazzi and rubano are R&B guys. I would love to have seen them do more in that direction. My favorite thing they’ve ever done is actually the Live at Orensanz, but as far as studio albums, it’s New Again for me all day.

Eric Valentine is a legend. The shade on him in this thread – almost solely this thread – is baffling.

My friend toured with them and he said that the singer basically started the band because he was a videographer and wanted an excuse to make videos, hence the aesthetic being so so on point

I’ve been collecting for 20 years this year (legit makes me want to throw up) and nothing turns me off more now than like all these “exclusive” color variants. Just keep it simple. I liked how Touche amore did it. They had like 3 colors? And a tour press?

I’m a big fan of certain indie labels that do like 1-2 color pressings that are limited for collectors and then just have standard black copies that are always available.
