It might be. But yeah I do believe the lyrics were different at one point. Maybe Tom did the final version of the song? Not sure.

[MEDIA] Is this it? The Lyrics are almost all completely different. Its the first time I've heard this one, maybe an early version of action needs an audience. And now I'm wondering if there is a better version of this one somewhere.

I know that. There was a youtube video I saw once where Jim did the singing.

I mean, I knew what I was getting into calling it "safe" which is why I said I wish I had better words. It just doesn't feel like it does much interesting to me for the band, nor does it feel like the hooks and songwriting are strong enough to make up for a lack of boundary-pushing (cuz yeah, I don't listen to ATL for a fresh new sound haha). That being said, I didn't actively dislike it so, cool that it's getting a good response! Enjoy the album and thanks for everyone's opinions. It just ain't for me, which is a bummer because I enjoyed the vast majority of their discog before LYR.

I do like how Jim sounds on the performance of Action Needs An Audience when he sings lead.

Invented, like Damage, had to grow on me, but I really love it now. I think it was my second Jimmy Eat World album that I chose to listen to on vinyl. (That reminds me, I need to have a vinyl discography day soon to help me relax.) My favorites (I'm aware most people dislike some of these): "Heart Is Hard to Find," "My Best Theory," "Higher Devotion," "Stop," "Cut," "Invented," and "Mixtape." I also really like "Action Needs an Audience" too - we're in the same boat.

I think sonically, pass the baby is very similar to the title track Invented. Both start slow and seem to end quiet and then there is that massive breakdown. Love both of them.

Jonathan Banks was on absolute fire this episode. his delivery of "WELL HE'S NOT OUTTA THE PICTURE IS HE" was so fucking funny. and that quiet little "I'm better now"... goddamn

Listened to Invented last night. I'll start off by saying that it is probably my least favorite of the albums up to this point (not to say it's bad or anything). I didn't mind most of the songs while listening, but it wasn't until the end of the album when things finally picked up for me a bit. Favorites: Invented, Mixtape, Heart Is Hard To Find That last section of Invented (the song) is top tier Jimmy Eat world in my opinion. Mixtape is another great album closer (they always seem to nail this). I also kind of dug Action Needs An Audience, but wouldn't necessarily put it with my favorites from the album. Also, does anyone else think that it sounds like Patrick Stump singing in My Best Theory? So again, not a bad album by any means. Just the weakest up to this point.

For real. I keep saying it but... I really do think we're going to now see two people who took their own lives due to Jimmy's behavior.

These are the songs ive gone back to: Pretty Venom Summer Daze Glitter & Crimson Clumsy Safe The rest of them have been largely forgettable for me (some of them, like Basement Noise, I really dont like at all) and the album feels too long - sort of missing a proper sequence or identity to me. Those five songs are great, though. I've been playing them all day long.

Im with you, although there are a couple of the new songs that i like. Im not sure this album had to be 15 tracks long either. But for those that are digging the album, i suppose it’s better that way.

I haven't followed the thread much but is this getting a universally positive response? Just finished my first listen and had no desire to put it back on. All of the songwriting felt very safe and boring to me, for a severe lack of better words to describe it (I'm not saying it was inarguably safe and boring, just that it *felt* that way, at least for the genre. Hard to describe). I also was pretty disappointed by LYR (I only really liked Dirty Laundry), so I know I'm in the minority. Not trying to trash an album everyone likes, just curious about the response.

Ok so I heard the album and it’s not bad to me. Probably not something I’ll listen to a ton of times but it’s above resurrection for me. The lyrics didn’t stand out as cringey but I also didn’t really listen closely. I dig the vibe though

I feel Chase This Light is sort of the opposite to Futures like I Surviving is the opposite to Integrity Blues. Futures is black and white, sort of a deep in thought record. Chase This Light is bright and colourful. It’s got a little more bounce and pop, sweet feeling. My favourite two Jimmy records and love them both for different reasons.

Wow. Another "Here It Goes" lover! I've always thought that was Jimmy Eat World doing pop at an expert level. The hook is just massive in that song. Chase This Light was my favourite for so long - it still could be (as you said) depending on my mood. God I love this band

Awesome story, and I can relate to it. My preferences for the albums change depending on my mood, and except for Static Prevails and the 1994 self-titled, each of their albums could be my favorite at any time, as a result. This is another album where it's very difficult to decide on top tracks. But if I had to choose, my top tracks on CTL are: "Always Be," "Carry You," "Gotta Be Somebody's Blues," "Here It Goes" (my favorite song of theirs), "Chase This Light," and "Dizzy" Shout-out to "Open Bar Reception," too.

Finally got around to listening to and discussing Chase This Light with my friend. Little bit of a side story, but I remember seeing this album on absolutepunk back when it came out (I dug the album cover). Listened to it a tad, but wasn't much of a Jimmy Eat World fan back then outside of The Middle. But it always stuck with me as my first real "exposure" to the band. So in that sense, the album has a special meaning to me. Favorite tracks: Big Casino, Chase This Light, Dizzy, Be Sensible, Gotta Be Somebody's Blues. Just putting it out there, but Big Casino is probably my favorite Jimmy Eat World song of all time. I just love the energy that it has. After listening to the album, I would still put Futures right above Chase This Light. I think Futures is obviously the better album, but I kind of enjoy Chase This Light a tad more (if that makes sense). We are on to Invented next, which I have only listened to once.

Agony & Irony was also my first trio album outside of bits of Crimson after it came out. I used to be obsessed with "I Found Away". Most likely an unpopular opinion, especially for longtime fans, but it will probably always be my favorite AK3 record.

A&I is at a minimum in my top 3 albums for them. NEver understood the (mild) backlash it got otther than people were unhappy they went from the glossy goth punk to the more alternative rock sound
