Haha love it. If anything, Derry is in excellent shape, hiking through the hills all day. I went on my own hill-hike today, similar to something described in the book, and I am WIPED. So the ad is all wrong.

Finished the poppy war series a few days ago, I was just as shocked as others to find out the authors age in the acknowledgments, incredible talent. Also picked this up, must have heard about it somewhere. Although I resent the implication in the advertisement here.

It's my favorite series and Robin Hobb is my favorite author. I hope you enjoy! It's a LONG series (16 books with the side stories) but it's well worth it by the end. The 2nd book in Farseer (Royal Assassin) is fantastic. If you look at the books side by side it's so funny how the first is pretty short and then just explodes in page count from there. You may already know this, but there are three trilogies that focus on Fitz and The Fool, and there's a separate 3 book series (ship of magic), and a 4 book series (rainwild chronicles) in between. They are all in the same world, and the last Fitz / Fool trilogy is the culmination of the various plot lines so they become more than just 'side' novels. The rainwild chronicles is the weakest by consensus, but if you get into the series, I wouldn't skip anything, and I would read everything in published order. The connections are subtle at first, but definitely there, and they will spoil moments from the other series if you just mainline the Fitz storyline. It's very bleak at times, but there's some beautiful / introspective writing throughout and the character growth / interactions are the best to me. Fitz can be a frustrating and flawed character, but it really is a massive journey that hits on so many facets of his life.

My hard copy is on the way also, says it's gonna be here tomorrow, which is crazy haha I finished The Tainted Cup the other day, but I am on vacation from work for a few days so I actually had a chance to read that I don't usually have, so I was looking for something at my library to hold me over and I picked up something that is kinda out of my wheelhouse: The Six-Gun Tarot by R.S. Belcher. The book jacket describes it as a Weird Western and it looked like a quick read so I pulled the trigger. I finished it in a a few days and it was really fun. Supernatural horror Western, but nothing too too intense, fun read, cool characters.

It always feels like if you aren't playing the game that came out in the last week the conversation is past you, but I am really trying to catch up on the history of video games as much as possible. Also, it is so much cheaper. Titanfall 2 was two dollars.

Some recent games I have played: Disco Elysium: One of the greatest games I have ever played. It has been a long time since I couldn't stop thinking about the plot of a game while I was at work or doing other things. Fallout 4: I kept putting this one off because of how critical the New Vegas side of the series fandom is, and they were pretty much right. It was just constant dungeon crawling and shooting. It is not a bad game if that is what you want, but the thing that makes me play New Vegas over and over is how many ways you can approach things. Sometimes I would look up missions and find out solutions I never even thought of, but in Fallout 4 you have to shoot the bad guys. Baldur's Gate: I put it on the easiest difficulty so that you cannot die in battle because I really just wanted to run through the story before inevitably getting to the newer game. I played a couple of CRPG's as a kid, mostly Age of Empires and Command and Conquer, but I just don't have the time or mental energy to learn the depths of some of these older games. I do think it is fascinating that games have gotten simpler in interface as the audience has gotten older and ostensibly more intelligent. Meanwhile, at 10 or 11 years old we would be dropped into these dense games and the booklets were as thick as dictionaries. Titanfall 2: I have no interest in multiplayer so I played the brief campaign, and it felt so tactile and like you were really there. Ninja Gaiden II (NES one): Could the people who made these games even beat them?

Took a big swing and asked Geoff Rickly if he’d blurb my upcoming book. He actually replied and said he’s overcommitted but that it seems like a great project and he’d love to read and blurb it if he ends up having the time. I’m about to send it to him, which is a surreal feeling. Grew up on this guy’s lyrics and his book last year was one of the best. Pretty amazing he’s responding let alone considering to read it at all. If we get a blurb from him, I’d lose my mind.

Can't criticize something that doesn't exist! I mean that in a positive way - anything is better than a blank page, no matter how terrible a first draft might turn out. Nothing gets motivation going like being creative, so working on a new project would at least get you creating new stuff and at best get you motivated to continue with the earlier project! These are all excellent reasons to go for it! No downsides, only upsides, and it sounds like a cool project to me.

I'm very self critical and harsh on my own work* (especially when it comes to the visual medium) though I'm a bit easier on myself when it comes to story writing and poetry (in fact I've self published a few poetry books up on Amazon, or can check my online stuff for free at MySummerJob - poet at allpoetry) even with how much I struggle with grammar. There's also the fact that I have another writing project I've been working on since 2015, "finished" the first book (still needs to have proofreads and touchups) in the series back in 2018, and have kind of hit a wall with it (I have notes, ideas, and ways to move forward, but just lack the motivation so that is on a hiatus... Plus my current computer has tech issues (like the hdd drive is dead (it's a dual boot with 500gbs that has the OS on a SSD and the 1tb hdd that died (need to see if I can get it repaired or data recovered)). Seeing as how on this computer I paid for a pixel art program called "Aseprite" but it reads/writes off my dead drive and the main SSD doesn't really have that much room. I could use free art programs like an online one called "Piskel" but that one isn't good and I haven't figured out how to get layers to work in that one. *I know I could probably team up with an artist, but I'm both unemployed and broke so I figure it would be better to do it on my own... Though now I think about it Pixel Art for a book might be pretty niche as well, but also cool to do (and different from the norm). Honestly the more I write about this the more I'm leaning towards doing it, even despite the issues I'd face...

I'm thinking of doing a picture book, but I'm not positive... Curious on people's thoughts here. I think it might be fun to do, and could let me explore other creative avenues. Keep in mind that I'm thinking of doing both the writing and art, but I'm not the best at doing art. Here's my deviantart and you can see what I've done: https://www.deviantart.com/mysummerjob/gallery Obviously if I did the art it would be in the pixel art style you see in my gallery.
