after familiarizing myself with it a bit, I recognized there were a handful of artists I already liked playing with that sound. some of that UK grime sound seems to originate from it. Major Lazer dabbles in it and has featured a couple of the artists within the genre. the newer wave of artists (think the subgenre is called funk bruxaria) can be a bit too experimental for my tastes - verging on sound design experiments IMO, but gaining somewhat of an underground following recently

today I am getting into the genre known as baile funk (aka Brazilian funk/funk carioca). it's basically Brazilian hip-hop with a Miami influence and it's very fun. if you like the producer Sango then you will enjoy this stuff, as he pulls from these sounds all the time. recommend to anyone looking for something new. check this playlist for a quick intro [MEDIA]
