i never got that into like moths to flames until their last album which i thought was a considerable step up for them. bangers galore on that

Man I love Lover but I also used to do drugs and listen to that album all the time in college and that's really what it's made for lmao.

the vocal melody in the verses of the horror is very good so first listen i didnt get what the problem was until the nancy drew part happened lmao. i can live with the song though im coming around on pretty like cake a bit too, got a nice hypnotic vibe to it. love the other 8 tracks here

tbh i think the first nin i would show someone is not the actual events. good little sampler of a lot of the different shades theyve tried on in a little bitesized 20 min package

I'd add a vote for With Teeth, it covers so many of the sounds they do in a super accessible way. plus it's an under an hour long which is an easier listen for newcomers

With Teeth is imo the most accessible NIN record if you are more of a rock-oriented listener. Broken is a pretty good starting point too if you want something with more of an edge to it. I understand recommending people to start at the beginning but PHM is so incredibly dated (and imo mostly very corny) sounding, I could see it really being off putting unless you’re really into, like, new wave/80s music.

even though american idiot and dookie were much more integral in my youth to getting me into music and specifically playing music, i have found in adulthood that the trio of albums between them resonate with me the most. isnt even a knock on either surrounding album as much of a testament it is to how much i love insomniac, nimrod and warning. nimrod almost feels like the closest thing the big league pop punk bands have to a london calling with how sprawling and adventurous it is

even having that same formative experience with american idiot when i was 13-14, warning is still my favorite tbh lol

ima be honest this did not land for me. maybe i need to spend more time with it but the idea of listening to it again feels herculean rn. they indulged very heavily into a lot of my least qualities of theirs. wouldn't really say any of it is bad rather than just not being for me, but uh boy is it not for me lol

The “blood on my hands” bits just sort of scan for me as a The Hives-type delivery. It’s pretty out of place, but not as bad as I expected either. Enjoying the album overall

yeah when he's singing it's a pretty chill song that reminds me of St. Broadrick, but that Nancy Drew part is just not it

The DIIV live acoustic album is one of my favorites in my collection. And though I don’t spin it as often anymore, I really do love the John Mayer Trio live record. One of the best sounding live records out there for sure I’ve got a live Daughter record as well that sounds amazing, but it’s so close to the studio album quality that I’m pretty much always gonna go for the real thing

yeah im probably gonna tracklist the apeshit songs in too, sharon tate woulda gone hard here, and the more weirdo electronic cuts land better than the horror (altho i dont really think that song is as bad as people are saying either)

Kaleidoscope rules. I think the Apeshit EP songs should have been incorporated into this for a better balance, but I'm cool with this record. I'm sure balling thinks this is a grand concept album or something so Aprshit couldnt fit but I still think it would've landed better regardless with more bangers. Not better than Ocean but I'll go as far as to say Ocean is every member including Anthony's best record, so no one should be expecting this to come close to it.
