i hope this thread is okay with some positive mental health news. i feel kinda guilty posting this. i got laid off from the company i'd been working for for my entire adult life the week before christmas. i've spent the last 4 months applying for hundreds of jobs, interviewing for countless positions, and fielding hundreds of rejection notices. today i'm set have a final interview with a company that is offering half of what i was making in my previous role. but i just got off a call with another company who i thought i had no shot with and they offered me the position! i'll be making more than i did in my previous role and i'm in absolute shock. i was completely resigned to having to make some serious life changes to accomodate my new living situation and now it's the complete opposite. holy shit

My first listen of "But Daddy I Love Him" was absolutely loving her criticism of religious judgement

Had no idea there was such *discourse* happening around “But Daddy I Love Him”, “Guilty as Sin”, “I Hate It Here”, etc. in evangelical circles right now. Been running across a lot of posts about it around the internet and I am always left very grateful to be a nobody. I know much of the lyrics can be read as metaphor for the parasocial relationships formed between Taylor and the worst of her fans who judge her life choices, but there are also groups of people going through religious deconstruction who read those lyrics as literal criticisms of the church which has also apparently led to an uproar within evangelical churches calling her a witch and all that. What a cool world we live in. I Hate It Here.

I watched season one and agree with those criticisms. I watched all three new episodes last night and, while I do think there is somewhat of an improvement with this season’s new conceit revolving around the mysteries of “The Next Step” and how creepy it actually is, there are still some lingering issues with the main characters that I don’t love. The main couple, for example, are following through with that trial separation they left off with at the end of the first season and the move into new territory happens awfully quick. They seem to be hinting at the connections between people with the blue dots so I’m at least curious to see what’s going on there with the Morpho machine.

The problem with half the internet hyper focusing on the one line of the 1830s bit is they miss the actual message which is glaringly obvious if they use a singular ounce of thought and listened for 7 more seconds. I'd say the 1830s but without all the racists And getting married off for the highest bid Everyone would look down 'cause it wasn't fun now Seems like it was never even fun back then Nostalgia is a mind's trick If I'd been there, I'd hate it it was freezing in the palace Is it clunky and corny a bit? Absolutely, but have you listened to Taylor?

Or they saw the left wing as easy marks. Which, judging by all the "Notorious RBG" stickers I see around Portland, isn't a terrible strategy.

Between him and Sinema, it's almost enough to start a conspiracy that they ran and then shifted right once elected in order to discourage the left wing of the party from voting
