Christ. I didn't realise it was that serious. Isn't football lovely... I really hope we have some other irons in the fire (hopefully someone from outside the PL), because I can't see us being able to make the necessary moves otherwise. Normally I don't get at all invested in transfer stuff, but this window has been the absolute drizzling shits.

Wasn't there some extra drama being caused by Gyokeres' agent as well? I think the situation is pretty much irrecoverable at this point. He's made it clear he has no intention to ever play for us again. Can't say that a few goals wouldn't soften up the crowd, but what state will he even be in, given he's had no preseason? I think quite a few people will have no sympathy for him, but it suggests the organisation at Newcastle in general hasn't been all that great this summer. Speaking of, we've had an improved offer for Wissa rejected. Keeps on giving.

I can't find any of the original articles about the offer Liverpool made, but the number being quoted now is £110m. I'm sure it was structured such that we'd see a lot less than that this summer, which is obviously a big pain in the arse with PSR and a big striker shaped hole. I was sure the headline number initially was £90m and there might have been instalments over a few years too. The two statements last night aren't helping anyone. This whole "promise" thing just feels like an extremely vague excuse. Given that the suggestion is that whatever that discussion was took place quite some time ago (not sure if it was implied as far back as last summer), I'm not sure what concrete guarantee anyone at Newcastle could have sensibly offered. Given that our sporting director left right before the transfer window began, I wouldn't be shocked if something offered got messed up by a change of personnel, but it's not like we haven't actively been trying to get some strikers in (which would imply we expected to let him leave). The game at the weekend is going to be very bad tempered.

Wonder if the quiet agreement was that he could leave with years left on his contract, to join Liverpool, well under market value. :-/ Edit to rant some more. Also, Liverpool's concrete interest (at least publicly) in him didn't arrive until quite late in the window, so what exactly could he have agreed with the club? If nobody is actually forthcoming with a sensible offer, what does he expect will happen? What had happened at the point where he decided to go train with Sociedad?

I actually remembered to properly choose my team before we started this year and I still start the season one from bottom, only beating someone who forgot to set their team. :crylaugh:
