Insomniac is clearly their best, actually. And yeah, Nimrod is great. I have a ton of memories with those two in particular from my musical formative years.

Is it also a punishable word crime to say the Dodgers inevitable playoff collapse is going to be extra delicious this season?

I can get down with that kind of funny and I should be kinder to it because I’m an improviser and that’s part of the fun of improvised work but, in the context of SNL and well-produced comedy, there isn’t anything better (IMO) than a true committed comedic performer, whether they go big or play realistic but committed realistic. It also stuck out to me when Spade and Carvey did the SNL new cast changes podcast and they live watched clips of each new person. They played standup clips of Kam and the other white dude and, taste aside, they were both hitting jokes and demonstrating their POV. When they played the Veronica clip, it was just like awkward anti-humor but Spade kinda vouched for her and said she’s great and Carvey and Spade were like “ok hey, we’ll choose to like her.” But then they played the Jeremy clip and it was like 3 people on Dropout’s Make Some Noise talking over eachother and laughing at themselves and then Jeremy doing a silly pirate voice or something and, since Spade and Carvey didn’t know him, they were just like “…he uh…I think they’re doing an improv thing” lol not knowing what the joke or deal was to be had there. And I feel like it showed how, if you aren’t already bought into the “I’m a silly goose!” personality, it can feel a bit confusing and insular when the performance and the ‘writing’ are both kinda post-ironic bad/shabby on purpose, even if joyful. And, like I said, live in a tiny theater it is definitely fun and infectious to see it happen in real time but, in a well produced professional TV show where the audience doesn’t know you, I am curious how it’ll go over. Or if they’ll push themselves to do more conventional character work. Neither has of-his-time maximum rizz of Andy Samberg or the gross-out subversive edge of Sarah Sherman. End novel!

The only real thing I’m looking forward to is watching and hoping they let Ashley Padilla break out. I’m curious about Jeremy Culhane and Veronica but my gut instinct is they are both a bit too “Aren’t I a little stinker?” personality-based comedians and I feel like I haven’t really dug that kind of player on SNL since Andy Samberg. I like the folks who are great character comedians and strong performers more. The rest of the cast just feels like they’ve done their thing already and I don’t necessarily want more of it. But we’ll see! Maybe I’m super wrong!

This dude absolutely rips and has been the dude for a very long time. I couldn’t find threads for past albums here and his new one is especially great, so I am taking the plunge and creating a thread for this one.

Even some SNL greats that I like have that kind of bland SNL flavor that can keep the show from feeling fresh and fun despite there being solid cast members on. Ego was one of a few people who didn’t have that and who I think kept the show feeling more alive and new. If they don’t let the 5 new people go wild and add new stuff, as I already said, this is going to be a long season of repeating what we’ve already trudged through the last few years.

For real tho. Do the Mets not want to go to the playoffs this year. The Reds are 2 games over .500, have been playing terribly, and they’re somehow 2 games back of the Mets.

Bummed he couldn’t scrape out one extra season of OK play. Also bummed he wasted his career in Cincinnati. But happy I got to see him play.

My seventh grade teacher played Titanic on the TV in our classroom and when it got to that part, she paused the movie and looked at us and said “Eh. You guys are old enough to see this.” And pressed play. I had skipped a grade so I was 11 years old and it felt transgressive.

I saw pretty much every Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean-Claude Van Damme movie that was on VHS tape when I was eight years old. There is a period of time when I told people that my favorite movie was Double Impact, the one where Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a pair of twins. There was no way that I would watch a horror movie though.

There’s an alternate version of my life where I choose the dark path of being an edge lord but I’m not living on that timeline. Thankfully, at some point there in my early 20s, I instead chose to trust the chaos of the universe and I got really vulnerable and a lot of good things started to happen in my life, like meeting my wife, finding out my hobby was actually something I could do as a career, and protecting my peace by cutting out a toxic parent. This was all preceded, however, by maybe a year of flirting with doing open mics and mimicking some dark and gross tropes born out of insecurity and anger. Very glad I didn’t do it more than a handful of times and that I had no success or validation. TL;DR: I never listened to cum town.
