This makes me somewhat hopeful that original members are getting streaming revenue from this, even if they didn't perform on it.

i never expected craig of all people to trust with a rerecording of an album that shouldn't be touched but he knew exactly what he was doing. this is my favourite thing i've heard so far this year.

I think so too. Definitely sounds like Krummet... drums sounds like DGD. Throw in a little raspy Craig. DGD/Tilian era like sound.

Freaking Kris Crummett, the stranglehold that dude's albums had on me in the late 2000s/early 2010s.

This feels like a potential turning point, where all streaming services are not created equally when it comes to music available.

This is definitely a case of a re-record making me realize what I loved about an album in the first place. The songs were already good, which is why they blew up in the first place, but this recording makes it listenable on good headphones.

Not to get sappy on main early on a Friday but Empty Black came out in a frustrating time of my life where I worked a shitty job I couldn't stand and I'd get up every morning at like 5:30 am and hate life and make my coffee and spin the record on my way to work full blast and I'm pretty sure it was one of the few things that kept me sane. Happy to see these guys are still putting out great shit.

Honestly, I'm not well versed in their first full length, but Empty Black is when I fell in love with them. I really felt they were a weirder/darker Every Time I Die and it was 100% my shit. This Bright and Beautiful World was my favorite album of 2022, and Stereo Grief was my favorite EP of last year.

The ETID similarities wear off the more you listen. I would start with Empty Black, Echoes and Dusk Pt. 1 is their "biggest" song, and it's got some other rippers. Sacrilege maybe, but I think the choruses are better on that one, even though This Bright and Beautiful World is equally good for other reasons. EDIT: don't miss the newest EP, which I think the last two songs are the best there, as well as the single "A Match Where A Great Fire Should Be" that was released as a single between the two full lengths. Incredibly consistent band.

  18. Micah511 liked Crisp X's post in the thread Genre Progressive Metal/Rock Thread.

For those who remember Exotic Animal Petting Zoo (who mixed mathcore, prog metal, and A Lot Like Birds like sass/post-hardcore...), they reformed under another moniker which just put out their debut album. They ditched the heaviness for something closer to art rock and prog rock. [MEDIA] Exotic Animal Petting Zoo would have dreamy, spacey moments here and there and they're even more apparent now. Reminds me of Anathema and Falling Up's later material at times.

This is so unhinged and off the rails in the best way possible. I can't stop grinning and laughing at what I'm hearing. This is like progmetal made to be the background music for a western or steampunk bar brawl.

Absolutely - that kind of stuff is what helped elevate bands like these guys and The Graduate above the rest of what was going on in the "post pop punk" or whatever you want to call it scene at the time.

I think Bryan Czap doesn't get enough credit for his guitar work on those first two albums. He was using delays and atmospheric tones and textures in a way that hasn't been explored much in this genre.
