Gave this a couple runs on my flight to Faro and infinite source FUCKING WHIPS. Need a closer listen but they've done it again.

I say this having not read the lyrics yet: that one is at least more musically interesting. Two Secret Weapons is kind of boring sonically with worse lyrics to boot.

There’s still a riff from one of those Sound Archives songs that lives rent free in my head

Seeing them tonight! Feels surreal after so long. I suddenly remember how I found about them, by clicking on random ap.net news back when they had put out demos as The Sound Archives and were looking for a new singer.

Yeah I’m enjoying the album overall, but the whole, “fuck the haters, I’m in my own league” style lyrics are not for me, and I also am not totally sure what happened because Eidola’s lyrics were pretty cool to non-offensive until the last two albums (kind of a double album).

I fell off around the great misdirect and coma ecliptic after getting into them with Alaska. Automata I brought me back around though, and made me realize every album is pretty dang good. I don’t really go back to self titled or the silent circus though, but for what they are they’re pretty good.

Coheed is a fairly predictable band, and based off the NWFT/Vaxis II tour, I really wouldn’t be surprised if we get an Afterman/TFOMB tour, which would be so sick.

So Claudio just said on IG that story wise, TFOMB is basically the Afterman sequel. I think we knew that even just based on song titles, but he also said Meri of Mercy is Key Entity Extraction X, which could make for a fun listen once all the bonus tracks are out.

Speaking of b-sides, I’m listening to the remixed Deranged, and I think a full version of YOTBR that sounds like this would be the definitive version.

Whether or not it was advertised as such, I think The Joke was definitely a Vaxis II b-side.

Which moment in Coheed’s discog would benefit the best from a Josh Scogin feature? I’m going with the screams in Play the Poet.

Spoiler alert: Melvin and Shiloh are in the same 3:50ish range, but Peter (wtf with these titles, hahaha) is 6:28 long. 18:04 total, which brings the total runtime to 75:31. Should’ve known it wouldn’t have pushed it over 80 minutes if they put it all on a CD.

I mean yeah... It's a little cash-grabby. I think they found a creative way to make money off of b-sides. That being said... I still want it, so... Also, on the other side of the coin,... How many fans have expressed disappointment that b-sides like Hush and Carol Ann never got full band arrangements?... They could just be listening to their hardcore fans and trying to give them what they want.

I do have questions about this though. Why now? Albums only been out 6 months. They just released the official video for Goodbye Sunshine. When were these songs written/recorded? Same sessions, intentionally held back for this, b-sides (they’d probably never admit it) or written later on? Why tack them onto the end of Vaxis III? Releasing them with a repress of The Afterman makes sense if it’s thematically tied more to that. The deluxe album art is exactly the same, and unfortunately, that makes it feel a little cash-grabby for me.

Second time the chorus hit a tear suddenly and violently erupted from my eye and ran down my cheek while I was waiting for the train this morning. Something about this band, man.

Yeah that’s a brighter song than I expect for a suite song, but it’s pretty good! Fits with both Afterman or Vaxis III. EDIT: yeah I’m at the point with my vinyl collection that I don’t like having multiple variants of the same album, so I guess I’ll pick this deluxe version up and sell my normal one. Would’ve been cool to release it as a single sided LP, but oh well.

I think folklore is her best “front to back, coherent, consistent vision” album, but my favorite songs are on 1989.

I love that session, but it’s definitely different from the traditional one done at NPR. I’m glad they’re doing the real thing.

Sick. Song titles are kind of odd, but that won’t matter if the songs are good. I will say, that’s still being sold as a 2xLP for the whole album, and I’m assuming these songs will just be side d instead of the Omni voice garbo, so I’m not expecting more than 22 minutes. Maybe 1-2 3-4 minute bangers, with 2 of them creeping into 6 minutes would be ideal. They have to know what fans expectations will be though. I doubt they would’ve called these an extension of Afterman if they were just 3 minute pop songs, you know? Those could’ve just been b-sides. Adding on to a suite from a past album is full fan service, and I hope the are pretty proggy, or at least have a callback or two.
