[LONG RANT!] Well, I lost my shit at dialysis yesterday. Certain staff that CONTINUES to whine and bitch about their PPE. Not wearing it properly. Denying the validity of this disease...I’ve gone over it so many times in here. I am high risk. I am furloughed until god knows when. My unemployment locked me out and I’m fighting to even hear back from them. My husband is working his ass off to pay our bills this month. this one tech though..bitching about Nancy Pelosi and being ObVIoUsLy drunk or drugged after watching the latest slowed down video of her to run to her patient cause he was bleeding. Cool. Local nursing home called (I heard the story clear as day as the RN was repeating it to the techs after hanging up) saying they have a positive patient (not even a dialysis patient) and wanted to make sure they don’t have to make special arrangements for the dialysis patients that live there. And this tech that I have a huge issue with already rolled her eyes and sarcastically said “oh are they dying?! If not they’ll be fine” What the ACTUAL FUCK. So then to finish off my lovely afternoon that finally set me off: she went on a 5 minute rant about WHERES MY COVID PAY?! I flipped my shit and told her she “should be fucking thankful she’s getting a paycheck while people are getting NOTHING and that if she doesn’t believe this virus is real and that is killing people left and right she doesn’t fucking deserve Covid pay. Now fuck off” I imagine I’ll be asked to switch clinics come Monday.

After some research I'm convinced the Devin Nunes Cow twitter account is run by a transphobe. I manually block terfs etc and the number of "followed by DevinCow" is just way too high to be a coincidence Not the biggest deal in the world since it's a worthless novelty account but I figured people might want a heads up

all billionaires are bastards. stop arguing in favor of them because of one exception to that rule that you know of. that money should be allocated to housing and food security, among other things, instead of at the whim of some rando

I think it does, its about scale and need. If you have a billion dollars, its an absurdly large amount of money. More importantly its more than one person could ever spend on their own (without investing in building personal space ships or some shit). Its an inherently evil position to hoard that kind of wealth while people are starving, dying, homeless, jobless, in the middle of a pandemic etc. etc. Even if you're "giving it away", why let it pile up to a billion in the first place? Ignoring that having that much money can only be gotten normally through evil deeds, holding onto that much money from winning a lottery or something would still be evil to do. I think the main flaw with your line of thinking is that you believe there's a way to ethically get a billion dollars. And unless we cure aging and people can live forever, I don't think there is. If you created a very successful company and were making a clean $1 million a year, a huge salary compared to the rest of us and likely your low paid employees, it would take you 1000 years to become a billionaire, that's if you never spent any of it and kept working that long. The higher salary you go the less time it takes, but the more money you're stealing for yourself instead of paying your workers, which makes you a bad person. If you run a company that makes billions and you and all your workers share profit equally, you'd have to be exploiting customers with price gouging or exploiting economic systems to create monopolies for yourself that would cause harm to millions of other people. Basically any way you cut, to get a billion dollars you have to take it from the hands of people who don't have the economic power to fight you, whether directly from your workers and customers or indirectly through ruining other businesses and livelihoods of people. There's no way around it in the way this capitalist society is structured, and when you have that kind of money you cannot be not corrupted by the power it brings. Even if you're giving it away, you have a power that most people shouldn't have for good reason. Its inherently evil and I can't think of a way around that.

i just kinda think profit is the unpaid wages of labor ya know? and if you have a billion or so that's a lot of unpaid wages and maybe that's unethical, i dunno?

No, I'm saying explicitly that amassing that wealth can't happen without exploitation of labor along the way.

I'm definitely "evil." There's no ethical consumption under capitalism, and I do the best I can, but I don't feign or claim moral or ethical superiority. And I would hate that actual job. I don't think I, or ANY individual, should be the person that gets to decide who lives or dies. I'd be terrified of paying off my mortgage while someone dies from not having health insurance because I gave money to cause X instead of Y and the guilt that would leave me with.

I know. A system where he's an arbitrator of 'charity' and, often, who literally lives or dies is a bad system. That's not democracy. (And there's probably a discussion of the exploitation of labor to amass that amount wealth in the first place to be had as well. Most of that wealth came from a sale to LVMH, who own many companies I think we all know are evil and exploit the living fuck out of people. His wealth wasn't created in a vacuum. It came from somewhere.)

this is getting too fixated on the literal definition of a billionaire. saying that they should be allowed to reach a billion and then get taxed into oblivion is nice and all but completely ignores, like jason and others have been saying, the path there. and what if someone has 990,000,000? we’re good with everything they did through their life/career and the existence of their ongoing wealth, as long as they don’t make another 10m? cmon.

what if that money never went to him and instead the workers who generated that profit... or... have control over where it went and how it was used?

Yes and no. That's part of it. There's something like ... 10?* ... different ad networks constantly bidding for spots based on demographic information from who they think you are (location, other websites you've visited they know about, guessed age, race, gender, etc.) as well as what's contextually on the site itself. So, this being a political thread with lots of those keywords, and Trump's campaign being one of (if not the biggest?) current online advertiser, is gonna trigger those buys. It all goes hand in hand. * I have nothing to do with the ad company that handles all the ads on the website, I don't even know what this really means or the differences between the companies/networks:
