Also I’ve been slacking but I listened to American Weekend today and loved it. Katie is such a great songwriter that the lo-fi tMG style recording really works for me.

Let’s go with Waxahatchee - American Weekend. Katie Crutchfield has a lot of well deserved hype now for her last couple records, but this first Waxahatchee album still might be favorite. Recorded right as her previous band was splitting up (if I recall the timeline right), this is a lo-fi solo album along the lines of early Mountain Goats. It’s fragile, sometimes abrasive, and always beautiful.

I was a little surprised to see they've never been mentioned on this forum! They're playing here the same night I have tickets to Ichiko Aoba and I'm tempted to buy a ticket for the other day she's playing so I can go see them too

[MEDIA] From their merch announcement this morning. Fest would definitely make sense for them too though.

JK I found something quick, I'm bringing LEYA's 2020 album Flood Dream. LEYA are a neoclassical...ish?/experimental duo from New York consisting of Marilu Donovan (harp/vocals) and Adam Markiewicz (violin/vocals). I often describe their sound with words like "lilting" and "haunting" and "beautiful" and while those are definitely technically correct I don't think I can accurately holistically describe what they do. LEYA good, is what I'm trying to say. This was handily one of my favorite albums of 2020. [MEDIA]

I love Caroline so much. Half About Being A Woman is an all-time favorite of mine and I dig pretty much everything she's done as Your Smith so far

My most anticipated album of 2025 is the first full-length in 12 years by Your Smith, a fantastic indie pop songwriter from Minneapolis named Caroline Smith. Lovely summer melodies, lush Laurel Canyon production, and great lyrics... definitely someone to watch. Don't think I shared this when the EP came out, but my best buddy from my college music school days is on this album. He did the choral/vocal drone that runs through the entirety of "Awards Season." Here he is talking about it: Blake Morgan Talks Voces8 and Choir
