I think I just wasn't in the right space for Panorama when it came out. When Vancouver came out I was in high school, obsessively devouring new music and going to shows constantly, and by the time Panorama came out I had graduated from grad school, moved three cities, was working full time and not going to shows as often. I probably only listened to Panorama a couple of times before this week, I remember it feeling slow or quiet or something but honestly I'm listening now and it rips! I definitely don't think it's any worse than their earlier albums, I just didn't give it much of a chance I suppose. Just a thought on the vocal mixing, especially listening on headphones, my impression is that they were really enamored with the guitars, because they sound great in these recordings. In the loudest/heaviest parts they really shine, but the vocals come down in the mix maybe a bit too much for a band whose lyrics and vocal performances really set them apart.
