I have heard Feiticeira thousands of times, and yet just thinking about it right now is getting me excited. That's how outrageously good it is.

Always have loved Feiticiera but when I saw them at Metro in Chicago last year and they opened with it the way everyone in my immediate vicinity popped off as soon as Abe hit that intro fill cemented it as an all time fav forever

im happy seeing lots of feiticeira love since i feel like that one gets a lil overlooked in the goat white pony tracks debate. personally its arguably my favorite tones opener. not as cathartic a start as hexagram or my own summer but it makes up for it with some of the most dazzling melodies of their whole career. that FIIIIIIIIIIRST UNTIIIIIIIE MEEEEE UNTIIIIIE MEEE FOR NOOOOW is so golden

White Pony is a masterpiece, an album where even the couple of relatively straightforward heavy songs have something extra, something alien, something foreign that elevates them above being just good songs. Back to School on the other hand is just a good song. Everything is on the surface. That's fine. But it sticks out on a record like that; it doesn't belong.

As a nu-metal fan, I do like it as Its Own Thing, "Feiticeira" is clearly the better song and opening track in every conceivable universe, though

Feiticiera is the ultimate vibe setter with an iconic air drum intro and Back to School is maybe like. my 78th favorite Deftones song, easy pick

I think unless you’re very tolerant of nü/rap metal, Back to School is going to turn you off immediately. it gives the wrong impression of what the album is going to be and fucks the tone all up imo. Feiticeira is much more reflective of the tone of the rest of the record. on a record where the band is really spreading its wings and trying to distance themselves from the nü-metal label and create something that stands out amongst their peers, Back to School contradicts that and makes them sound like they’re trying to fit in with the trends of the time (because that’s literally what they were told to do in making it). I think the song is fine and catchy, but also a little goofy and clearly something the band finds kind of embarrassing and lacking integrity and (most importantly imo) not part of their intended vision for the record.

Yep. Go backwards, skip Gore and circle back to it sometime after Self-Titled imo. I love that album, but it feels distinctly different from the rest of their discography. Is "Rubicon" my favorite Deftones closer? Folks...it's probably "Ohms" if I'm being real, but let's just say it's up there.

It’s an okay enough song but so out of place on White Pony, especially as an opener. The intro to “Feiticeira” is so iconic. The riff, the way the drums come in, the way Chino’s vocals come in. Just perfect.

This will likely indicate that I have too much free time on my hands but every once and awhile I like to make chronological playlists of specific song numbers from every album. What that means because I can’t describe it very good is putting all the album openers on a playlist in chronological order and repeating for the rest of the songs (example below). Also a fun way (to me lol) to reconnect with songs I may have forgotten about over the years and/or to see how different the styles and execution of the songs are. 4th song on each album: Nosebleed Around the fur Rx Queen Good morning beautiful Cherry waves You’ve seen the butcher Poltergeist Geometric headdress Error Infinite source

general thoughts after my second listen: much more positive than my first listen impression, which was still positive but a bit muted. I dunno if the leak was maybe a little lesser quality of a rip or if I just listened to it a bit too quiet on my system but I found it hard to make sense of some sections of some songs, it sounded a bit mushy. on my headphones there’s a crispness that was not there on my first listen. THAT SAID… this thing is mastered hot as a motherfucker, like way too crushed for my preferences. this isn’t anything new for the band, but still. I feel like the Nick records get it the worst. not the biggest gripe in the world when the record itself is mixed well and the songs are all good, but I am hoping the vinyl master is an improvement for me in this regard. I’ll find out on Sunday. all that aside, I do actually really dig the mixing here, I think more than the other Nick records. I dig Chino’s vocals being tucked back a little in the mix, especially since they have a nice stereo spread to them, I feel like it helps them feel more grounded in the space the music exists in. I don’t really struggle to make Chino out in the mix despite this either, so it’s a success for me.

Y'all weren't joking around, this thing is incredible! Not surprised at all, but also a band who's 30 yrs into releasing music and they come out with something this great--amazing!! Side note: I didn't realize I had it on shuffle when I pressed play, after Mountain played it went to Departing and I thought Chino was Peter Steele for a sec

Out of their discography, the albums I had in mind the most during my listen were Koi No Yokan and Gore. The dreamier feel of the first with the 80s influences that were heightened on the latter, except fully realized and better executed this time. I even thought of Adrenaline on some old school sounding parts. I'll have to check but I think those were on cut hands and metal dream. Lots of new things vocally too, Chino took me by surprise quite a few times. Frank brought his A game as well, there's so much psychedelic stuff going on in the background that stands out from his work on previous releases. Can't wait to dive into this a second time.

Just finished my first listen. I think enhancing the experience through vintage windows media player vizualizations and half-asleep must've helped because a recurring thought was "is this their trippiest/shoegaziest album ever!?" So much to say, I'll give it second listen when I wake up.

It looks like it’s set up so there’s three channels you can switch between It’s interesting because CH 3 looks like it’s just songs from other artists? It lists In Like Flynn which is a Girls Against Boys songs. There’s also Quote Unquote which is a Mr. Bungle song too

They're not breaking up and it's not Eros. I'm not even considering those. A second album would be really cool but that's not really the sort of thing they would do. Some kind of film/documentary is my guess, but that's mainly from dismissing other options. Edit: What @Michael Belt said

Hmmm there has been a very faint whisper of a rumour recently — but from someone whom I'd trust — that there is something coming out around the release of the album that had caused the album to be delayed by a few months.

He gets mentioned for coming up with it and is interviewed about it after the article. It's terrible. Article starts with the interviewer seeing if Chino had heard of baddiecore, which he hadn't. Then she tells him. Article ends with this sign-off: ‘Deftones transcend generations. They are baddiecore. And they are only getting bigger.’ Followed by an interview with Craig Reynolds about coming up with the word.
