The new Julie Christmas song is an absolute belter. I love how on edge her voice is to breaking in the chorus, especially towards the end. It's perfect. [MEDIA]

Took a big swing and asked Geoff Rickly if he’d blurb my upcoming book. He actually replied and said he’s overcommitted but that it seems like a great project and he’d love to read and blurb it if he ends up having the time. I’m about to send it to him, which is a surreal feeling. Grew up on this guy’s lyrics and his book last year was one of the best. Pretty amazing he’s responding let alone considering to read it at all. If we get a blurb from him, I’d lose my mind.

These comments piqued my interest enough to listen to it for the first time and it's just a standardly mawkish acoustic pop-punk ballad; bad in the same way that a hundred other versions of that song are.

Coachella is very in the moment, but still curated rare and unique acts, little bit more emphasis on electronic music. Coachella consistently books the best multi genre U.S. lineup. Lolla is also very in the moment, little bit more commercial acts, less of the indie/rare sets you see at Coachella. It suffers from the amount of teenagers and it’s early curfew. Bonnaroo still has a little bit of roots in the jam band scene, the electronic skews a bit more bass heavy, tends to have more country/folk compared to the others. More of a varied lineup, from Fate Webster to Key Glock to Gwar in a couple hours.

Obviously in different places at different times of the year but are there any significant differences in musical styles or strands between Coachella and say Lollapalooza or Bonnaroo?

USP? From my point of view, Coachella is definitely the most iconic(and pretentious). You are one of the biggest of the big artist if you headline a night of Coachella. Usually though most Coachella acts are not ones I follow or are not my cup of tea. To me most acts seems like made up names thrown in a random Coachella band name generator. However, I have a certain affinity for times when bands I do like end up on the line up(Deftones, Biffy Clyro, Knocked Loose, Chrvrches)

Fred Sablan. He's been playing with them for two years. Presume he'll be on the new album. He's played with Chelsea Wolfe and Marilyn Manson in the past (maybe focus on the former of those). I didn't even realise Coachella was two weekends until very recently. May as well ask here: what is Coachella's USP? I pay very little attention to your American festivals, and from what limited attention I do pay, a few of the big ones seem fairly interchangeable.

also posted this in the hip-hop thread experimental pop/“alt r&b” sprinkled with a lot of other sounds. beautiful, avant-garde yet weirdly accessible. like Jeremih, How to Dress Well, Tierra Whack, and clipping. all thrown in a blender. once you feel like you've got a grip on the vibe, the next song switches into something entirely unexpected. I love this album. [MEDIA]

I mentioned my other major favourite in the original post -- his double album split with t e l e p a t h called The Path To Lost Eden (written in Japanese as ロストエデンへのパス) is phenomenal. I briefly considered picking it but it's over two hours long and I thought it was already stretching polite form to ask everyone to listen to a contourless 80 minute album. [MEDIA] But he's always interesting. Nu.wav Hallucinations and Pharma are well worth digging into. I believe he's finished work on his new album so hopefully we won't have to wait long for that. [MEDIA] He also makes and posts fun little mixes and edits on Bandcamp every once in a while, like this funny eye-based, sample-feast remix of The Sign by Ace of Base: [MEDIA]

Yeah this is definitely my shit, I think I prepared for something much weirder based on JM's description and Travis' comments because it's definitely weird but I also listen to a lot of vaporwave so it's not throwing me off at all lol. More melodic than the OPN record I kicked the club off with, and that's in a similar vein. Just a really cool, dark, dreamy, vibey record. I'm glad others are fucking with it. @JM95 other favorites from this artist?

He did slightly revise his opinion on that a few years ago. That last track incidentally was originally two separate ones, the Ronald McDonald one intended as a secret track, but the runtime was too long to space it out: [MEDIA] I love it as a conventional closer. I think the partly comical, partly unsettling note it closes on is befitting of the album whole.

Carragher's uncharacteristically right. Playing direct to Nunez and especially Diaz, who makes the ball stick, is exactly how you attack them. Then their midfield has to drop, their wingbacks have to tuck in, and then you can play short passes and look for spaces.
