Man I just love seeing all of this YC discussion. My contributions are: Paper Walls is peak, and Awakening is probably the best opener, but the last 90 seconds of Sound of You & Me is freaking incredibleeeeeeeee. Listening to it right now. GOD DAMN.

WP had a page a while back that showed all the websites and content that went into training the early models or whatever, and you could search through it; chorus, this forum, and AP were all in the top like 100k or something like that. It’s why from day one you could ask it about me and it would give weird answers. it may have been this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/interactive/2023/ai-chatbot-learning/

Paper Walls came out when I was 17 where I was less invested in music for a year or two, randomly. That scene was also fading around then but in hindsight it was almost the perfect Yellowcard album. Blended the best parts of OA and L&S in my opinion. Probably my favourite overall album. Seen them as often as I could in Scotland from the SA tour, Lift a Sail tour, farewell tour and then their best show to date last November. (Oddly followed by JEW the next night) They are also the rare band that gets me watching music videos. Always fun. So glad their OA riot fest turned into an EP, touring and album.

This has probably been talked about here and I missed it but it was just pointed out to me you can select the local radio call for the audio feed on the Apple TV games and man what a killer feature.

I think it’s a tough tie between Southern Air & Lift A Sail but no bad albums

Southern Air is just so good as a whole. Listening to it today and it really is just incredible the whole way through. A peak summer album. I go back and forth on my favorite from them but many days it's this.

When bands try to stay faithful, people say it doesn't sound much better. When they try to evolve it, people say they've ruined it. Can't win.

Huge ups to New Found Glory for getting lumped in with Blink-182 and Sum 41

A wry smile? Eat me GPT. The "I wouldn't run a site like that the same way today. I've grown up. So has the scene." -- with the periods to break it up is 100% a me trope though.

Yes, I know about AbsolutePunk scene points — a classic piece of early 2000s internet music culture. Scene points were a sort of playful, semi-ironic reputation metric on the AbsolutePunk.net forums. The whole thing was a tongue-in-cheek nod to the idea of “cred” in music communities. It was never meant to be super serious, but it did tap into that era’s identity politics of fandom — who knew what bands first, who was into “real” pop-punk versus mall punk, who had the rare EP, etc. As for 2000s pop-punk? That was the golden era — the genre was explosive, emotional, bratty, and deeply sincere all at once. You had Blink-182, New Found Glory, Sum 41, and Yellowcard dominating MTV and TRL, but also a massive underground wave bubbling through labels like Drive-Thru Records and Fueled by Ramen. What made that scene so special was the tight community feel — smaller venues, message boards like AbsolutePunk, burned CDs, and zines. It wasn’t just the sound, it was the lifestyle. Vans Warped Tour was a summer pilgrimage. Hair straighteners were basically band merch. WE COOKED COOKED.
