I’d add Coheed and Mastodon too but yeah it’s really impressive how consistent Deftones have been.

Two listens in - this is so fucking good. Some stray thoughts: - Infinite Source is THE ONE, my god. - The vocal entrance in Departing The Body was a genuine jump scare. - Steph and Frank ain't messing around for all 42 minutes. The lushness at times is a true wall of sound (complimentary).

For some reason I want to try listening to this and Hum's Inlet alternatively. Feel like they'd flow so well one into another

definitely self-titled vibes from that one. can't really explain it, but it gives me the warmth of "minerva" They are all good and going backwards (or forwards) through the discography would be a rewarding experience, but if you're specifically digging this, I would check out Ohms, Koi No Yokan, Diamond Eyes, and Self-Titled. You should absolutely check out the others, but those are the ones that sound most similar to this imo.

As much as I love heavy Mastodon, I always hoped they would release some more material like CDP. I think it's some of their finest work. Brent's musical voice really shines through.

Do we think "Around the Fur Chino Version" is the Chino-directed music video that was scrapped for being too graphic?

I still remember begging my mom to buy me Self Titled on release day from Best Buy for like $9.99 in early May when it came out. She surprised me with a copy after I got home from school. Laid down on the couch, unwrapped the album, flipped through the booklet, and went for a ride! I was pissed Staind's 14 Shades of Grey was getting way more recognition.

I was into them earlier, but it was when I was really young (11-12). S/T cemented them as my favorite band though, and I have similar feelings for that era.

I know it's part of the "dark days" era but I will always have a fondness for that time period. That's when I got into the band so that era is so nostalgic for me.

Really sad news. I ADORE Brent's guitar solos and his bluegrass-influenced style. His solos in Oblivion, Roots Remain, Cold Dark Place, Jaguar God... Man, what a talent. He was one of the most unique musicians in heavy music in my opinion and I am devastated at how everything recently played out between him and his bandmates. Rest in peace, Brent.
