I want to be able to connect with people IRL without alcohol. I'm now 8 years removed from my college days when I'd use it to cope, to the point it'd made me believe I was only friendly and worthy of anyone's attention and affection after a drink or two. Even though my life is now very different in a positive way and alcohol is barely a part of it, it hurts to admit that I still get those cravings anytime my social anxiety gets off the rails (aka too often). Feels like it's my mind lying to me.

It's been our mini-vacation the last three years. Just a fun long weekend from start to finish.

Southwest had a 50% off sale last week; was able to snag two round trip flights for $500. Last time it cost about $1,300. Flights aren't the best of times, but to save that much money? I don't even care.

This is what happens when sauces / flavors trend. They end up where they don't belong.

The Vegas location is absolutely fine. I have gone all 3 years and only had minor issues at any point. All things considered, I think it's an extremely well run festival with good stage spacing, adequate food and drink vendors and bathrooms etc and it's at the best time of the year for heat besides being in actual winter. It's a destination city, and is giving large groups of friends an opportunity to go hang out in a fun place or to go in a smaller group and meet people. It's easy to identify who's there for the fest and it's just a great friendly time, from downtown / old Vegas all the way up to the top of the strip. I'm all for it and am still probably going to hang out this year even if I'm not going to the fest.

I love mozzarella sticks but they're a choking hazard. Imagine choking on one, and people are too impressed by the cheese pull while trying to save you. I get these whenever I go to the renn fair. So good. They're a staple in pubs everywhere in the UK, don't find them much in the US but a good fried button mushroom is ace.

I'm the same - thought it was fine but nothing spectacular besides the racing. No idea about the 'tactics' part of the driving and how realistic it was, but it was a good move theater experience. I honestly think I liked the Gran Turismo movie more. It didn't have the wow factor of F1 cars, but I felt it had a better story and more likeable characters and relationships.

RE Summer Slaughter Tour It was what I expected plus several other hiccups. 2200 cap venue and I'd say 500 people on the absolute most generous side so venue didn't feel right - wish this had been in a smaller cap. Fugitive (who I got into throughout the day) - only played 2 songs due to: - power outage as they were sound checking due to severe storms and then a prolonged sound check as things rebooted and failed to work properly. - some guy fell and cracked his head open and had to get stretchered out to an ambulance so they ended their set after 2 and a half songs. Luckily the guy was awake and moving when he left. Apparently (and I wasn't close at the time to see), he was being an absolute drunkard, pushing and borderline fighting and he got shoved back and fell and cracked his head on the concrete floor. Was out cold for a good 15 minutes and when he left, you could see the back of his head split. Pretty scary and hope he's okay, though he left to a lot of jeers from those around him who once he was okay, were fine letting him know that it was his fault. Didn't see, don't want to judge, glad I didn't watch someone get paralyzed (or even worse) in front of me. One of the more eventful shows I've been to. In the end I only saw Gridiron and Hatebreed. Gridiron - Decent, not my style but they sounded okay. Hatebreed - sound was off, way too trebly and I hated the drum snare sound, but they were tight and the stage rig and the lights were super cool (though they felt absolutely overkill in a half empty room). Seems like they've made their money, and continue to make money, and just play because they like it. They kept it positive, and rocked out for those that were there.

Creeping Death was added to a few Summer Slaughter shows in/around Texas. I think Morbid Visionz is on a few dates now too. I'm looking forward to the show Sunday. Gridiron, Fugitive, Creeping Death and Hatebreed is a pretty solid bill imo.

Yea, it's my first 5 star as well. I think because there's more continuity? I don't generally like 'adventure / mystery of the week' stories / shows, and am always looking for that continuing thread and it's now clearly finally here. Sure, the floor will change and the quests, but I am enjoying the more connective tissue to the story now so that's what has finally got me all in on it. If I enjoy the rest, I will probably try to put together a Carl Cosplay for an upcoming Con in September as it seems pretty DIY friendly and I'll have fun sussing out all the details that I can craft. Last year I did my first one as Jacket from hotline Miami and I didn't even think it was that good, but I got so much attention and comments that I want to do something else that doesn't have to be perfect to be recognizable or appreciated.

Controversially I guess, I really don't like the cleans for spiritbox all that much and think Perfect Soul is one of the more skippable songs on the album. It fits within the context and the flow, but if it just came on in a metalcore playlist, its tough to not hit next, just doesn't do it for me. There are other songs in which I like the cleans more, but in general, she's not my favorite vocalist for cleans / melodies.

No Atlanta sucks but I guess all 3 bands have been here recently. I love Honey Revenge but they don't fit the other 2 bands - good for them though. Periphery are in fact great live.

Yea, I just gotta dive into them all as I'm not familiar. I got a ticket for just Malevolence and to see Hatebreed who I've never seen. Still gonna go and hopefully am proven wrong and get some new bands in the rotation out of it.

Going to the Summers Laughter tour and thinking it's going to be a dud. I really wanted to see Malevolence and they dropped off and it's in a venue that's probably far too big for the lineup. I've never seen Hatebreed and I don't know any of the other bands (working to change that today), so meh. If I didn't already have tickets and was buying day off, I'd skip it.

DCC Update: Just finished book 4 and while I liked the others a fair bit, this was the first banger of the bunch. Fully invested in just binging this out now before reading anything else. I love how absurd and unhinged it's gotten, but it never seems to break its own rules so it just works. Good stuff.

Yea, audiobooks are hit and miss. Longer more 'boring' drives are better. I can't navigate traffic on the way to work, while thinking about my work day ahead and do audio books. I have some days where I rewind the same 2 minutes until I just give up. The perfect time for them for me are on long walks, doing the dishes, cooking, sorting laundry etc.

Helloelloallo liked ChaseTx's post in the thread Book The Fantasy/Sci-Fi Books Thread.
My general goal is to read one physical book and about 1.5 audiobooks per month. However fantasy is a bad genre for audiobooks for me, because I only listen about 40 minutes a day on my commute. Exception is if I decide to mix audio and physical to get through a long book faster. Also 1000 page physical book is always going to take me more than a month. Re: The First Law -- I loved the characters and their perspectives, but the plot takes a backseat. I can live with that trade off. Need to pick up The Devils

I was thinking something like The Wild Robot where it's not really 'animation' in the traditional sense but it has a gorgeous visual style. I honestly think something along those lines would have made much more sense for PJ's Hobbit movies where there was so much CGI anyway.

Damn, I've read like 8 which is a good clip for me based on previous slump years, but it's not a competition in the end, except to just encourage more reading, which is a better use of my time than some of the other entertainment choices I choose. I'm doing better at reading a chapter at 10pm instead of getting on counterstrike and getting wound up. It's funny that if you go on places like reddit fantasy, it seems love it or hate it, (with more love), but there's a good bit of disdain for how the overall arc turned out. That includes my wife who was so mad at the end that she hasn't taken another recommendation since and genuinely views following through and finishing it as a waste of her time. Shrug - I'm with you. I loved it. I only read the first standalone 'best served cold' but I'd recommend that. I want to get back to the other 2 standalones and then to the next first law trilogy but as stated above, 1 book a month isn't going to get me through my want to read anytime soon. I'll probably do the Devils first as it's standalone (for now) and sounds like a good 'popcorn' read that won't take me too long.

Interesting list with plenty of new stuff to check out and then other albums that let me down. I honestly don't listen to nearly enough NEW music these years to even have a top 25 but surprised to see some albums make the consensus list. Will check out what I haven't listened to and maybe go back to some ones that didn't stick for me first go around.

Was genuinely disappointed with the Turnstile record. I realize now it’s very taboo to give any criticism towards the band who’s done so much for hardcore but my opinion is my opinion. The video component is without a doubt my favorite part of the album rollout but it just feels like a Glow On 2.0, which maybe isn’t such a bad thing considering what it did for the band. Just hoped to see the limits being pushed even more but I didn’t feel like that really happened. So happy to see Hotline TNT, Greet Death, and Silverstein on the top 25! And while I was really let down by the Superheaven record, it’s great to see the band getting love.
