I think Saturday is one of my favorite songs in their catalog. Shame they don't like it. Would love to hear them dive into that pop pocket again.

Saturday is a radio hit in my mind , I don’t care how well it did or didn’t do. It’s a brilliant pop song.

There's a clip of Tyler in concert basically saying that he wrote it intentionally to be a radio hit, and it didn't end up doing that well. So I'm not sure if backlash is the right way of putting it. I'm sure some fans thought they sold out with it and there's definitely a few who didn't like SAI as a whole.

Not surprising to me, because I am definitely a music-first person. I'm going to try to take a little longer with this playlist than usual to make sure I really am getting the lyrics and story, even if I don't like the song, which fits the prompt to me

I LIKE Iron & Wine, I really do, in general. I've NEVER cared for that song.... I started the playlist, got bored a minute in, went to start a load of laundry and dishes, had a quick snack downstairs, came back up and there was STILL 2 mins left of the same strumming and rambling. Lol

Also gotta love how the song about getting drunk and high on the beach comes 2 songs after the straight edge anthem.

SHOCKED to see 'You Can Call Me Al' on here - BLAND?!?!? That bass line alone to me eliminates it from consideration here. Besides the word bland, I do like this description however, it made me chuckle: "Musically, it is so inoffensively bland that it can still be blasted at you 40 years after it was released while you're trying to purchase apples and grapes on a warm April afternoon." Still gotta get this some votes, for me, this song goes. Lol

At first glance this list looks much better than last round.

100% Agreed - never heard any complaints about the clean production. Just a flawless album.

I also understand some of the complaints about the production being too "clean" on Diamond Eyes, but I just used "CMND/CNTRL" for a music league I'm in (not this site's) and I swear that song is louder and harder than anything else on the playlist. That album is heavy as fuck. The guitars literally sound like chainsaws (complimentary) lol

Ran through self-titled and you are absolutely out of your mind if you think "Battle-axe" is boring. That clean part at the beginning of the song alone justifies its existence. "Good Morning Beautiful" and "When Girls Telephone Boys" are crazy underrated

I absolutely believe that. It is far and away the least beloved album in their catalog. (Maybe other than Adrenaline.) [MEDIA] Y'know, I'm not saying I'm right (because opinions can be neither right nor wrong!) but I ran my Minerva take past the most passionate Deftones fan I know, and their response: "I don't tend to get very riled up about takes like that, but I tend to agree that it's a little boring. I need to be in the mood for it more than other songs in the catalog." I do not understand that complaint. DE is one of their best sounding records.

Yeah, I really do feel THAT much stronger about my first pick, so I think I should keep it. Thanks for the insight, everyone!

Wouldn’t switch it out and wouldn’t change my voting standards either. I realized I used 2 Deftones songs within 3 rounds I think (albeit from different albums and in different “seasons” of our league - but don’t care). If I love a song and it fits the theme, I’m using it.
