From personal experience, these people tend to be the ones whose favorite album is Your Favorite Weapon and never listened to anything past Devil, if even that. I know even RATM has Republican fans, but the disconnect between Brand New writing songs like "Archers" and "Desert" that are so explicitly anti-bigotry and the language used there is galling. It only furthers the need for them to say something to shut those fans down.

it’s true, but I think this genre/scene in particular had the overlap of 1) emerging during the early wild wild west internet culture and 2) being a genre that highly appealed to young women, and that combo made it a real breeding ground.

more common than uncommon tbh. I never had any direct experiences but I felt like most bands that were in the scene ended up creeping on/flirting with/sleeping with my hotter friends when they were teens

As cynical as it is to say... it's probably just because hardcore fans don't like Brand New's music, which was never hardcore to begin with. If it were a band that was equally revered in their community, I don't think they'd be saying the same things.

I was assaulted by my friend’s roommate and she remains good friends with him to this day. It is definitely disappointing but I also know that life and relationships are very complicated so I’ve given her some grace as well… Idk it’s very hard to work through it all mentally for sure. Sorry to hear that about your wife’s friends as well.

Makes one look differently at why exactly Kevin jumped ship from opening the Science Fiction tour right after the initial allegations came out. His actions seem performative like Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who was all about promoting female empowerment on his shows and in the media, while at the same time firing a female actor for getting pregnant.

Not even the sexual stuff specially, but those pictures in the article really had me going “what the fuck are they doing?” Because of the age thing. Like even if there was no grooming or sexual acts intended, you’re 29/30 years old hanging out and smoking weed through gas mask bongs with 15/16 year olds. That’s just really weird! Like I would completely get it if you were 23/24 doing that because sometimes you’ll have friends that are 20 that you knew from HS and they’ll have friends a few years younger who come and hang out, like that does happen sometimes and suddenly you’ve got a 23 year old smoking weed or playing beer pong with a 16 year old. It’s a little weird but it’s understandable how it could happen. But when you’re pushing 30, that’s a situation that just doesn’t happen anymore, and if it does, you should be removing yourself from the situation because it’s kinda weird lol. granted I am a HS teacher and being around teens that often makes it a lot easier to see why 30 year old me would have absolutely avoided hanging out at a party with a 16 year old in attendance, but yeah. It’s weird to do that at that age, and it’s downright messed up to purposefully make it happen yourself the way JL did.

I think I know who you’re talking about as I saw one of them post linking to their old podcast episodes about Jesse a few weeks ago (in a different subreddit entirely). At least I assume there’s only one duo that has a Google drive of “evidence” lol. I had a long road trip last weekend and decided to listen to their episodes to see what their stance on all it was because it was presented as being balanced. it was… some of the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard in my life. made me actively angry that I couldn’t yell at them through my speakers.

Really truly feel like the conversation happening between Alyana and Drewski an important one and one of the most delicate I've seen in here and for the time being I really think we should let that happen without dunking on Drewski and making the thread unusable again.
