I always thought that track sounded like if saosin wrote a chiodos song

Count me amongst the DR-is-top-tier-Silverstein crowd. I liked each of the last couple releases enough but find them largely forgettable. I enjoy them as I’m listening to them, I think they got away with trying and executing some cool new things, but I think a fair amount of it, especially the singles, are now pretty far removed from the magic of their earlier material (which is not unique to Silverstein of course). To their credit though, I’m not sure I can name a band that better managed their transition to a broader audience. ABPTD was a bit of a rougher landing (and they have their fair share of bad stinkers) but the band had largely already prepped us for it by getting poppier leading up to it. Still remember being blown away the first time I heard Ghost while also recognizing that we were definitely entering a new era soon.

Silverstein is one of my favorite bands, but I’ve been pretty lukewarm on the last two albums outside of a few tracks. I know that’s an unpopular opinion, but I’ve been disinterested after loving Dead Reflection. I don’t know what it is, but a lot of the last two albums just sounds overproduced and generic metalcore. I’m still happy they are doing very well drawing wise and touring constantly. Band is full of great people and deserves all of the success in the world.

Never really cared for illuminaudio outside of a few songs but I agree it’s not really a hit take, at least not around here. I’d probably still call BPB my favorite but it admittedly sounds just as dated as anything else from that era. FWIW I still think Devil and the last DRUGS release were wildly underrated and came out too late.

You’re obviously right on all accounts but I think the larger still-missing point here is just that of the greater ills of consumerism. I collect plenty of things, including vinyl, so I’m not innocent here but when you think about it collecting anything is really kinda messed up lol. This definitely isn’t the first time I’ve questioned the “morality” of continuing to buy dozens of things that largely just sit there, even if they are supporting art and relatively low on the environmental degradation scale. Not sure there’s really a fix here given, as you said, how many bigger fish there are to fry, but I think it’s a solid point to make regardless.

it feels like a combination of the two - that exploitation of fans contributes more to environmental detriment. by generating demand to boost sales, you manufacture more records to meet that demand, which requires more materials and potentially harmful production processes.

What she’s saying is definitely less about exploiting fans and more about the environmental impacts of so much production

Every album should have a black variant

I don’t mind non-matching colors for the novelty (I’m a sucker for red and purple), but I generally buy the one that does match the art the best. Always seemed kinda funny to me that rarer or special variants that are both more expensive and often don’t match the art as well or don’t look as good in other ways. I appreciate that the color match variants are usually cheaper and easier to get. Like Lydia’s Paint it Golden repress - the 2 larger print variants look sooo much better than the rarer sold out one (which is still a relevant color but much more boring). new album is fantastic - feel like they should’ve blown up a lot more

I've significantly cut back my vinyl purchases this year. Don't know how often I'd actually listen to the live Saosin album but I do love that cover

It sounds like you had a fantastic trip, @disambigujason! Lisbon and Porto are indeed beautiful in the summer. It’s a shame you couldn’t make it to the Algarve, but perhaps that’s an adventure for another time.

I was in Lisbon and Porto over the summer - it’s a great time! Didn’t have enough time for the algarve but from what I was reading it’s uncomfortably hot in the summer anyway.

While I haven’t personally visited Lake George, a neighbor mentioned taking a scenic boat tour at the lake. It seems like a great way to engage in water activities and enjoy the scenery. Apologies for the brief info, @Rizzo. As for my own plans, I’m excited to explore Portugal this coming October. I’m aiming for a quieter experience with milder weather. My itinerary includes Lisbon, Porto, and The Algarve. It’ll be my first visit to Portugal, and I’m looking forward to discovering Lisbon on my own since it’s such an accessible city. I’ve come across the Lisboa Card Lisboa Card - Tourist Pass for Free Sightseeing and Transportation which seems like a smart choice for saving both money and time, offering complimentary or discounted access to numerous attractions and unlimited public transit in Lisbon. However, for Porto and The Algarve, I’m considering enlisting local guides to fully delve into the local culture, food, and architecture via https://gowithguide.com/portugal/porto/guides
