Of course we can criticize AOC and any other progressive when they do something wrong or bad. I don't think this is as big of a deal as people make it out to be since her vote meant nothing on this bill and she is one of the select few congresspeople that actually have been critical Israel in the past. Still, she should have voted no so yeah we can call her out on that and any dumb explanation she gives regarding it. She's obviously not a fraud though and I don't know how people can say she is when you look at the whole picture of what she has done since getting elected

It's very strange to me how he won that crowd over when he's not even a charismatic or particularly good speaker. His speeches are so fucking rambling and he goes off on stupid tangents. We should've imeached him a third time. Third time's a charm.

The disconnect between Trump being considered tough and macho when he actually acts like a gigantic fucking whiny baby really pisses me off.

I feel like the Petito case definitely put some pressure on the Jelani Day case here. The body found in the river in my county did end up being him. Yesterday they released his wallet had been found “some time ago” and that an ISU lanyard had been found near the river. I hope our coroner regrets making this statement the day he was found: “the body found in the Illinois River and the missing persons case of Jelani Day are separate from each other.”

I have a short story about "you have stolen my heart". Last year when it came out my fiancee and I decided it would be our wedding song for April 2020. Covid hit a couple of weeks before the wedding and we had to cancel it. I wasn't able to listen to that song or even most of the album for the past year and a half because it hurt too much. Our rescheduled wedding was on August 6th this year in San Francisco (we live in San Diego). I still couldn't use it as our song because it brought up bad memories of canceling the wedding the year before, so we decided on another song. On our drive up to SF for the wedding, I saw on Instagram that Brian was selling some handwritten lyrics to four different songs....on the morning of our wedding. Turns out one of the songs was "you have stolen my heart". I was amazed that he was selling those on the exact day of my wedding, so I began re-thinking using the song. I talked about it with my fiancee and we decided it was too much of a coincidence and we were going to use it after all. The morning of my wedding I set my alarm to wake up early and try to get a lyric sheet from Brian. Luckily for me, he was releasing lyrics to "the '59 sound" that day too, so I think most people wanted that. I got my lyric sheet, added a line from the song into my vows and danced to the song with my wife that night at the reception. Now the song brings me nothing but happy vibes.

I’ve been on a few BAD accident calls. They more often than not have two common denominators: no seatbelt and a cell phone.

I wouldn't do an indoor show right now. I have tickets to an outdoor show in a few weeks and honestly I'm not sure we're even gonna go to that. It is what it is.

Bummed to say I'll probably be cancelling my Boston tickets. Still feel weird about indoor shows right now, and I've unexpectedly used the majority of my time-off this year from health issues. Sucks.

I found this deeply fascinating. I’ve always loved trying to analyze biblical stories from a modern day perspective in an attempt to figure out what exactly happened there. The bit about the walls of Jericho falling down with a mighty wind a few miles away is just as interesting if you’re familiar with that story as well. The more you think about it, the more it lends itself to other aspects of the story, like Lot’s wife turning into a “pillar of salt”. How else would you, in a pre-science era, describe the sight of a person being reduced to ash right in front of you, especially with the addition that high levels of salt were deposited in the valley upon impact. So interesting.

100% true. The missing man in my area is a black male grad student. Of course the paper made it known the last place he was seen was a dispensary. As if the retail location fucking matters.

The story is sad, yes. And we’ll see a bunch of podcasts / documentaries about it. And yes the family should be able to grieve right now. But I can’t help and think that the media and true crime fanatics went so hard on this story because she’s a pretty white girl. The media coverage wouldn’t be the same otherwise, we know this.

You don’t need a lawyer to not talk to the police. If the police try to talk to you then just say “thank you but I’m not interested.” If they pull you over or otherwise tell you that you’re not free to leave then give them your ID/proof of insurance/etc but just say you don’t wish to talk about your day (check your own state’s laws but if they pull your car over and suspect you of a DUI and try to get you to do those roadside tests then you should not have to comply — those test are made to be failed and are only used as a justification to arrest you and bring you down to the station where you have no choice but to take the BAC test, which CAN be used to convict you quite easily) And if the police arrest you and try to interrogate you then say you’re invoking your right to silence and also demanding a lawyer. They have to give you the Miranda warning and you should heed that warning regardless of whether you can hire your own attorney or not. The police have arrested you because they suspect you of a crime - they did not drag you down there for the sake of giving you a chance to clear everything up and exonerate yourself. [MEDIA] [MEDIA]

watch the youtube video posted. lets say, hypothetically, he didnt do it. anything he said at all to the police could have been used against him at any point. in the example given in the video, someone talked to the police that didnt think they needed to worry because they were a criminal defense attorney, then later in court the police said he said something in a conversation that the man claimed he never said, so now its his word against not one other person but two other people, one of whom is a cop. trust me, you're better off not speaking to the police even if you think you need them for help. more often than not, they're looking for criminals and they'll turn you into one if its convenient for them.

I understand the arguments to be made to get a lawyer and shut up, don't talk to the police, etc. regardless of if you are innocent. But if he was innocent, and in this situation where something happened to his girlfriend where she was missing, why would you not want to help find her and provide any information that could be useful in figuring out her possible location?

The advice about not talking to the police is sound, and has way more to do with the police and prosecutorial system than with lawyers wanting money. Even if you’re just going with a public defender do not talk to the police on your own. Edit I should have read on, a few other people already basically said this

just being in the vicinity of a cop increases your chances of being shot and killed by a tremendous amount so my recommendation is dont say a word to them if you dont have to. and that goes for no matter what your skin color is, although obviously the darker your complexion the higher your chances of being shot are too. but they also shoot a whole bunch of white people without question and get off so better safe than sorry.

my brother works in family law and charges $200 dollars an hour but his clients constantly go and do shit without talking to him that winds up implicating them and making his cases a million times harder. it was worse when he was a public defender in rural missouri.
