Got the official approval to photograph their hometown show next weekend. This will be so surreal.

some other scattered thoughts: despite it being a score, hearing reprises of a few songs caught me off guard. there's definitely some melodic connective tissue that makes for some interesting repeated motifs (AAAYNMTB being the biggest one), but it feels different than a typical score's take on repeated themes. can't really explain it other than maybe i wasn't expecting as many? This Changes Everything sounds like a spiritual sequel to In Motion (from The Social Network), with a bit of DNA from The Hand That Feeds. it's pretty awesome. the score gets much closer to Wendy Carlos than Daft Punk, but still feels characteristically NIN. i wish there were some more sinister-sounding cues (particularly some more percussive ones), but it definitely feels deserving of carrying the NIN moniker in a way that Trent and Atticus's other score work doesn't (even though that piano sound Trent loves on all his scores does show up several times). it also feels more experimental and liminal in places than i was expecting, so i'll be curious to see how some of these tracks grow on me. the duet with Judeline (Who Wants to Live Forever?) is quite beautiful, and her voice works really well on this song.

I don't think Self Destruct or The Title Track are any where close to their best. Dirty Mirror Selfie would probably be my pick, Feeling Not Found is up there, as is Few and Far Between and The Air Up Here. They have some great closers.

Agreed Self Destruct is their best song. But Feeling Not Found is a very very close second.

With Teeth was my introduction to NIN and will always be the one I pick to convert someone else. Personally, I was almost exclusively listening to scene stuff back then so that album made for a safe transition towards industrial adjacent sounds. I remember blasting that one and The Slip first, but having a hard time with Year Zero as it was more out there. The earlier records would've been too outside my comfort zone at the time too. Kinda depends on the listener's broader music taste and what they're accustomed to.

I'd add a vote for With Teeth, it covers so many of the sounds they do in a super accessible way. plus it's an under an hour long which is an easier listen for newcomers

With Teeth is imo the most accessible NIN record if you are more of a rock-oriented listener. Broken is a pretty good starting point too if you want something with more of an edge to it. I understand recommending people to start at the beginning but PHM is so incredibly dated (and imo mostly very corny) sounding, I could see it really being off putting unless you’re really into, like, new wave/80s music.

I couldn’t find it in me to not just give every song a point here. This theme was engineered for a bunch of slam dunk picks and that’s exactly what we got The last time I had a job where I was exposed to the radio for 8 hours a day was ~2013, so stuff like that Bastille song really hits. High up on my list of alt picks were the two Zedd singles, Clarity and Stay The Night, for that same reason. Mirrors as well

One I almost used was Drive by Incubus. Surprised it didn’t make the playlist because that song felt like it was being played nonstop

Also, Every Morning by Sugar Ray would be perfect here. Kind of wish i could swap my initial pick out with that, but I stand by my choice.

Listened to this playlist as it was designed to be listened to - while doing the grocery shopping. Almost ruined the serenity of the Asian food aisle when I realised the perfect pick would have actually been Gives You Hell.

Baffling that the camera lenses still stick out of the new camera bump... The main benefit of having that horizontal camera bump on other phones like the Pixel is that it prevents your phone from rocking back and forth when laying flat on a table

I think most bands will just designate a set number of copies for each date, so it will likely be more about getting to the merch table early enough than being an earlier stop on the tour.

Oops I had to buy another copy of Soul Punk because it was the deluxe edition. I didn't get the exclusive, but I prefer the other variant either way. Excited to see how the screen printing turns out and curious to read the letter.

The DIIV live acoustic album is one of my favorites in my collection. And though I don’t spin it as often anymore, I really do love the John Mayer Trio live record. One of the best sounding live records out there for sure I’ve got a live Daughter record as well that sounds amazing, but it’s so close to the studio album quality that I’m pretty much always gonna go for the real thing
