    The New York Times:

The British street artist Banksy pulled off one of his most spectacular pranks on Friday night, when one of his trademark paintings appeared to self-destruct at Sotheby’s in London after selling for $1.4 million at auction.

    Incredible.

I imagine this would have instantly inflated the value of the piece, so wild.

It’s such an interesting thing. Kinda feels like a heist movie thing to do.

    Questions:
Who won the auction before it was destroyed? A part of me thinks that there would be a winner, maybe they were in on winning the auction.

How was the timing in the shredding device triggered? Was it a remote by someone in the room, or a phone triggered code? Excellently timed.

I read one article suggesting it immediately doubled in value.

Well it is infamous now. The shredding wasn’t completed. Was that intentional? Who sold it to Sotheby’s?

The whole Banksy thing will be a great film in 30 years.

    Might be Spider-Man...

Agreed. Still torn on whether it's a who, or a collective.

This definitely makes that piece more valuable.

Would assume soon each shredded strand would be as valuable as the full piece.

Pretty wild. If you ever visit Amsterdam, check out the Banksy art gallery. It's pretty surreal seeing all of his work in person.
