Kind of surprised Wonder Women got snubbed. I'm all in for Dunkirk, though.

  5. I'm glad that my four favorite films of the year all received nominations (The Last Jedi, Blade Runner 2049, Logan, and The Florida Project), but I'm sad that Florida Project only got the one -- I thought it would have a Best Picture nod, no problem. The coolest surprise in all of this is Logan's screenplay nomination. Everything else is pretty boring.

  6. I'm hoping to finally see this soon! Too bad Armie Hammer didn't get a nomination for Supporting Actor, meanwhile Three Billboards received two Supporting Actor nods and Christopher Plummer seems to have been nominated less because of his performance and more because of the circumstances surrounding his performance.

I think you meant kind of surprised LOGAN got snubbed.

I liked Wonder Woman, but it's a good movie. Logan was a great movie and should have been a best picture nomination.

Admittedly didn't see many of the critically acclaimed movies this year, but glad to see Blade Runner grab a lot of technical nominations. The atmosphere and world building of it really blew me away.

    PHANTOM.
    THREAD.

Don't even need the wins, just pumped it's recognized this much. Certainly wasn't expecting it considering it's been a hot decade since PTA has caught the Academy's eyes.

I'm honestly surprised that Dunkirk received so many nominations. A lot of people I have spoken to online and offline didn't seem to enjoy it as much as his other films.

It was a fun movie for sure and broke the mold for superhero movies. However, I wouldn't consider it Oscar worthy.

  13. Inherent Vice was nominated for screen play and costume design. The Master was nominated for Actor, Supporting Actor, and Supporting Actress.

Has he had a single movie that hasn't been nominated for something? Punch Drunk Love might be the only one.

  14. Sort of unrelated but after months of this happening, I'm convinced I'll never be able to look at the title Call Me By Your Name and not get "Don't You" by Wet stuck in my head for the rest of the day

I can imagine there might be a lot of fans of his work who didn't feel it was their favourite of his, because it is rather different than his usual. But I've also talked to a few people who normally dislike his films and Dunkirk was far and away their favourite of his. If anything it showcases some other skills, and may appeal more broadly to a critical audience (not meaning to suggest it has more broad appeal than Batman of course).

Surprisingly good nominations! I hope the one really bad movie they nominated for a lot of things doesn't win a lot of things.

As a lover of animation, this is just a continuation of the 12 or 13 year-long-streak of the Academy being ignorant and snubbing less-than-mainstream films.
"What's that? It's not made by Disney/Pixar, or something my grandkids talked about at Thanksgiving? WITH SUBTITLES? Oh good heavens, no. No, I think I'll nominate Boss Baby."

Pretty sure that Billboard movie and Water Sex movie are going to sweep.

On doit jouer à domicile comme à la maison.

Loving Vincent got a nomination, that's not made by Pixar and a less than mainstream movie I thought. At least here it wasn't. Only showed it in art house cinemas over here.

Dunkirk is Nolan's best since Inception. Maybe since the Prestige.
