Dave Grohl was on Lars Ulrichs radio show last night and said that Paul McCartney drummed on one of the new tracks. I think that might be the celebrity guest that they were hinting at earlier in the summer. Can’t wait to hear it.

That was announced early. Justin Timberlake also sings on a track, but apparently just some “la la la’s”.

There's a slew of guest appearances on the album but you wouldnt know it without reading the liner notes. The song with McCartney on sounds a bit McCartney-esque but it could easily be Taylor Hawkins playing on a song mimicking his style. None of the vocal guest spots are really noticeable either. That's not a slate on the album just a cynical remark that I dont feel the guests really brought anything to the songs other than a marketing gimic.

I've listened to Hot Water Music and the Foo Fighters twice through today. My initial thoughts are as follows.

    Foo Fighters:
Really enjoyed. I can honestly say that I enjoy every Foo Fighters record (so there is bias on my end) but I think this is the biggest sonic change they have made between albums in their career. It is most definitely still Foo Fighters but it does show more restraint and experimentation. Thumbs up from me.

    Hot Water Music:
Again one of my favourite bands. Loved the singles released before the album but also feel as though they are the highlights so the whole album didnt blow me away. I think it's a solid effort but the songs arent as strong as Exister which I place up there with Flight and a Crash, Caution and No Division. Some good stuff but sometimes sounds a bit on auto-pilot and not as strong as the last Ship Thieves or Chuck Ragan efforts. Some of the songs feel a bit like they were left overs from those 2 projects that have been reworked into Hot Water Music songs. It's not blown me away but I'll be spinning it quite a bit over the next year as Hot Water Music at their least impressive is still better than the majority of punk bands out there in my opinion.

The Lone Bellow is the best release of the day for me. I think they buckled down and made their best album yet. New Foo Fighters is growing on me.

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

Foos is the big one for me today and I love it so far. Need to blast it in my car for the full effect though.

Might check out Seaway and may branch out to some new artists if I have time.

August Burns Red, Veil of Maya, and My Ticket Home all released new singles this week as well.
